What is The Abandons about?
Netflix describes the series as a fictional Western set in Washington Territory in 1854. Its story follows two families: one wealthy and bound by blood, the other a found family of orphans and outcasts bound by love and necessity. Their fates become entangled through two crimes, a secret, a romance and a piece of land containing silver. Netflix Media Center frames the central conflict around family, land and power.
Lena Headey plays Fiona Nolan, who protects her unconventional family, while Gillian Anderson plays Constance Van Ness, head of a wealthy family whose fortunes are tied to mining. The contrast between Fiona’s chosen kin and Constance’s privileged household drives the series’ central rivalry. Netflix classifies the show as a Western; its official description presents a fictional drama.

Netflix lists seven episodes in season one. The official episode titles are:

Has Netflix renewed The Abandons for season 2?
No. TVLine reported on January 21, 2026, citing Deadline, that Netflix canceled The Abandons after one season. Netflix’s title page lists the released seven-episode season but is not the source of the cancellation announcement. Read TVLine’s cancellation report.
