What was the original Land of the Lost about?
The original was a three-season 1970s adventure series. Rick Marshall and his children, Will and Holly, were sent through a portal into a strange, prehistoric-like world. It was populated by dinosaurs, reptilian humanoids called Sleestak and the ape-like Pakuni; one Pakuni, Cha-Ka, befriended the family. T3 describes the series as combining live action with stop-motion animation.

That is the original’s premise, not a confirmed description of the Netflix version. The June 2025 reports do not say whether the new series will retain those characters, creatures, stories or production techniques.
What is known about the new series’ development?
TVLine reported that a writer was being sought and that Sid and Marty Krofft, developers of the original, and Deanna Krofft Pope were expected to produce. The article also said Netflix and Legendary declined comment on the trade reports. These are reported development details, not confirmation of a writer’s appointment or a production commitment.
The cited coverage does not establish a cast, a confirmed writer, a production start or a release window. It also supplies no attributable statement from a named person about the reboot. No release date was reported in these accounts.
How does the Netflix project fit with earlier adaptations?
