Who does Mo Amer play?
Mo Najjar
Mo Amer plays Mo Najjar, a Palestinian refugee living in Houston while his asylum request is pending. He works to help support his family, often improvising in ways they may not approve of. The series follows him across cultural and linguistic worlds as he tries to keep daily life moving under the pressure of an uncertain future.
Who plays Mo’s family?
Farah Bsieso as Yusra Najjar
Farah Bsieso plays Yusra, Mo and Sameer’s mother and the sharp-witted head of the Najjar household. Her priorities include family and faith, along with watching The Price Is Right.
#1 Best Overall
Omar Elba as Sameer Najjar
Omar Elba plays Sameer, Mo’s older brother. Netflix describes him as brilliant, affectionate toward cats, and looking for independence and romantic love. Sameer is autistic; that is one aspect of his character, not a substitute for his ambitions, relationships, or personality.
Cherien Dabis as Nadia
Season 2 introduces Nadia, played by Cherien Dabis, as Sameer’s sister. She helps Sameer develop, adding another family relationship to the story. Netflix’s Season 2 coverage discusses her role in his arc.
Who plays Maria and Nick?
Teresa Ruiz as Maria
Teresa Ruiz plays Maria, Mo’s girlfriend. She supports him but is also an ambitious businesswoman with her own independence and convictions. Their relationship is therefore part of the story’s broader tension between Mo’s immediate family responsibilities and the life he wants to build.
Tobe Nwigwe as Nick
Tobe Nwigwe plays Nick, Mo’s loyal, longtime friend. Nick has tried to settle into a calmer life, but he remains there for Mo.

Which actors join Season 2?
Netflix Tudum lists these Season 2 newcomers: Simon Rex, Johanna Braddy, Liza Koshy, Matt Rife, Ana De La Reguera, Slim Thug, Ralph Barbosa, and Bill Engvall. The coverage identifies Liza Koshy as Talia and Matt Rife as Jeff. It does not specify roles for the other newcomers, so they are listed here without character assignments.
Netflix’s broader title-page cast listing also includes Walt Roberts, Kamal Zayed, and Lee Eddy, alongside returning performers and Simon Rex. A platform cast listing can include performers beyond the principal character group, so it should not be read as a list of series regulars.

Season 2 keeps the central family and relationship dynamics in place while putting Mo in a new predicament. He is stranded in Mexico after an attempt to recover stolen olive trees goes wrong, and he tries to get back to Houston before his family’s asylum hearing. The season also puts pressure on his relationship with Maria and his hope of returning to Palestine.
Netflix announced Mo Amer, Teresa Ruiz, Farah Bseiso, and Omar Elba as returning series regulars when it renewed the show. The Season 2 story also continues the roles of the wider cast, including Nick, played by Tobe Nwigwe.
