Netflix announced on June 2, 2025, that Mikaela Hoover would bring Tony Tony Chopper to life in its live-action One Piece: she provides the character’s voice and facial capture. Chopper is no longer a future addition to the show; Netflix says all eight episodes of Season 2, ONE PIECE: Into the Grand Line, are available to stream.
Who plays Chopper in the live-action One Piece?
Mikaela Hoover performs Tony Tony Chopper’s voice and facial capture. Netflix’s June 2, 2025 first-look announcement and its Season 2 cast guide identify her in both roles. This is more specific than a conventional on-camera casting: Hoover supplies performance elements for a digitally realized character.
Hoover described the character’s emotional contrast to Tudum: “What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart,” she said. “He tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he’s a big softy, and his love can’t help but come out.”
Is Chopper CGI in Netflix’s One Piece?
Netflix says visual-effects company Framestore adapted Chopper for live action, using a drawing by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda as the design basis. Hoover’s voice and facial-capture performance are part of the character’s presentation; the public account does not detail the full capture workflow or specify every technique used to create the finished character.

Oda described the work as an extensive refinement process: “From his form and furs to his expressions and voice, and even lighting and gravity simulation –– a world-class team brought their skills together in bringing Tony Tony Chopper to life, and now he’s ready to be introduced to the world!!” Netflix visual-effects supervisor Victor Scalise also told Tudum: “It’s been a lot of fun. We’ve got a great team leading that process with Chopper … I think the audience, when they see him, they’re going to be very happy.”
Who is Tony Tony Chopper?
Chopper is a blue-nosed reindeer who gained humanlike traits and the ability to speak after eating the Human-Human Fruit, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit. In the story, he is a doctor who wants to cure any disease, a loyal friend, and someone who enjoys compliments. The wish to cure disease is a fictional character ambition, not a real-world medical claim. And, as the recurring joke insists: he is a reindeer, not a raccoon.
