Netflix confirms that Season 2 production began in Budapest, Hungary, but has not announced a specific premiere date. A separate headline focused on Eiza González does not establish that Season 3 has started filming.
What Netflix has confirmed about Seasons 2 and 3
Netflix renewed 3 Body Problem for Seasons 2 and 3. In its November 26, 2025 production update, Netflix said Season 2 production had officially begun in Budapest, Hungary. That confirms work on the second season—not that filming on Season 3 has begun.

What the Eiza González headline does—and does not—tell us
The “Exclusive” angle refers to a Collider interview with Eiza González at SXSW, where she was asked what she could tease about Seasons 2 and 3, including whether Season 3 had started filming. The accessible excerpt on IMDb’s news aggregation page characterizes her answer as cautious but does not include the complete response. It therefore does not verify that Season 3 production is underway, or provide a reliable production detail to quote.

The show’s next chapter and returning creative team
3 Body Problem adapts Cixin Liu’s science-fiction novels. Netflix’s May 2024 renewal announcement named David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo as the returning creative team and said the continuing episodes would carry the saga through its full journey.

In its later production announcement, Netflix quoted the three co-creators, writers, and executive producers describing a shift in the show’s scope: “The tone really changes once you get to the second season.” They also called the next chapter bigger, wilder, and more cosmic. D.B. Weiss said the team had hoped to reach the final page of the third book and was thrilled to do so. Those comments signal their intended direction; they are not a substitute for details about the season’s plot.
New cast members announced for Season 2
Netflix’s July 31, 2025 cast announcement added Claudia Doumit as Captain Van Rijn and Ellie de Lange as Ayla. Alfie Allen, David Yip, and Jordan Sunshine were announced in recurring roles.

Do you need to read the books first?
No. The series is an adaptation, but the novels are optional further reading rather than a prerequisite for watching. The trilogy is Cixin Liu’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past, beginning with The Three-Body Problem. Netflix’s comments about aiming to reach the third book’s final page offer book readers a sense of the adaptation’s intended destination, without requiring viewers to read ahead.
