Netflix announced TV party games on October 9, 2025, and began rolling out the first five titles in November. The games appear on a compatible TV through Netflix and use a phone or tablet for each player as a controller. The feature has since expanded beyond that original party-game slate, but remains a beta available only in selected countries and on selected devices.
What Netflix launched
This is TV gaming through the Netflix app, not a collection of games downloaded directly onto a television like console software. A supported TV or streaming device displays the game, while players scan an on-screen QR code to connect their phones or tablets. Netflix describes the setup in its original announcement and launch guide.
Netflix announced the feature on October 9, 2025. Setup guidance followed on November 13, and the first five games rolled out during November 2025. Those dates distinguish the announcement from when players could actually start using the games; Netflix’s November setup article explains the phone-controller model.
The five original TV party games
These were the titles in Netflix’s initial announcement, not a guarantee of the complete or unchanged catalog today. Netflix may change the available games by region or over time.

How the TV-game catalog has expanded
Netflix’s later coverage points to a broader TV-games program rather than just the original five party titles. Its July 28, 2026 TV party-games guide includes additional options such as Jackbox Party Essentials and Overcooked!. FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, a sports game rather than a party-game title, arrived on Netflix Games on June 11, 2026, according to Netflix’s announcement and game page.

The TV-games beta also includes games that are not party titles, and not every Netflix game works on a TV. Netflix distinguishes its mobile-only games from TV-compatible games in its device guidance. Check the specific game on the TV interface rather than assuming a title available on a phone is also available there.
How to start a game on your TV
- Open the Netflix app on the supported TV or TV streaming device and choose the profile you want to use.
- Select Games at the top of the interface, or open the Games or Party Games row if that is how the device presents it.
- Choose a TV-compatible title and select Play Game.
- When the QR code appears, have each player scan it with their own phone or tablet.
- Follow the on-screen prompt to connect each device as a controller, then begin the game.
Netflix’s labels can vary by device and rollout, so a tab literally called “Games” may not appear. If the Games option or row is absent, the device may be unsupported, need an update, or be outside the beta. The steps above follow Netflix’s TV and computer games instructions and controller setup guidance.

Check whether your setup is compatible
Country and device
Netflix’s support page lists TV and computer games in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Availability remains limited by country and device, and may also vary by game, account, profile, hardware generation, and software version.
Netflix describes TV games as available on many recent-model TVs and TV streaming devices, not every device that can stream Netflix. Its general device list names platforms and manufacturers including Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, LG, Roku, Samsung, Sony, TCL, Vizio, Hisense, and Apple TV. That list is for Netflix viewing generally; it does not guarantee that a specific model supports games. The most direct check is whether the Games option appears on the TV itself.

Network and player devices
- An active Netflix membership and a stable internet connection are required. Netflix recommends download speeds of 10 Mbps or higher for TV and computer games.
- Each player needs a phone or tablet to act as a controller. Netflix’s controller guidance specifies iOS/iPadOS 17 or later for iPhone and iPad; Android players connect through the Netflix app after scanning the code.
- Depending on the device and platform, players may use the Netflix app or Netflix Game Controller app. Netflix’s controller instructions provide the platform-specific steps.
- Physical gamepads and other dedicated controllers are not supported for TV games at this time.
Netflix’s published country list and requirements are in its support article. Its broader compatibility guidance also notes that hardware capability or manufacture year can rule out a device: see Netflix games on supported devices.
What it costs
Netflix says TV and mobile games are included with an active Netflix membership, with no separate game fee, advertisements in the games, or in-app purchases. They are not standalone free games: access depends on the membership. Netflix’s membership information explains the subscription requirement. The available information does not establish a verified U.S. plan price for August 2026, so no plan-price figure is included here.

When Netflix is a good fit—and when it is not
It works well for casual, same-room play
- Your household already has Netflix and a TV where the Games option appears.
- The group wants a quick local game without buying a console or dedicated gamepads.
- Everyone can supply a compatible phone or tablet, and the group likes drawing, wordplay, minigames, or social deduction.
Another option may suit the group better
- Some guests do not have a suitable mobile device, or the group prefers tactile, precise physical controls.
- You want a large permanent library, long-form or serious competitive play, or remote multiplayer between households.
- You want access independent of a streaming membership. Netflix’s TV games are local, same-room play unless a particular game explicitly offers another mode; Netflix’s catalog remains tied to the account and service.
Compared with a console or PC, Netflix lowers the hardware and game-purchase barrier but depends on supported devices, internet access, and the membership. Jackbox is a close alternative for phone-controlled living-room party games: its official site offers standalone games, while Netflix’s coverage of Jackbox Party Essentials describes Netflix’s subscription-bundled option. Neither format removes the need to check which titles and devices suit the group.
Fix common setup problems
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| No Games row or option | Confirm the country is supported, update Netflix and the TV software, then check the device’s games compatibility. Try another supported TV or streaming device if available. |
| QR code will not scan | Use the phone’s native camera, adjust its distance from the screen, tap the code to focus, and allow camera access for Netflix or the controller app. |
| Phone disconnects | Wake the phone screen; Netflix says a controller may disconnect when the display turns off. Disable a VPN and use Wi-Fi rather than cellular data where possible. |
| Only one player joins | Have each player scan the game’s QR code separately with their own device. |
| A game is missing | Check another profile or title; a game may be region-limited, affected by profile maturity settings, temporarily unavailable, or under maintenance. |
| “Too many people” error | Close Netflix or stop a game on another device using the account, then retry. |
| Lag or unstable play | Improve the Wi-Fi connection and reduce network congestion. If needed, restart the TV device and network equipment. |
| A physical controller does not respond | Use a phone or tablet for each player; physical controllers are not supported for TV games. |
For persistent network problems, Netflix recommends powering down the relevant device, unplugging the modem and router for at least 30 seconds, reconnecting them, waiting for the network to restart, and trying again. Its troubleshooting guidance also covers account-use limits, maintenance, and temporarily unavailable titles.
The practical verdict
Netflix’s TV games are an easy way to try casual group play when the household already has a supported setup and enough phones or tablets for everyone. They are less suitable as a replacement for console gaming or a standalone game collection: the beta’s device support is selective, controllers are phones, and access relies on the Netflix membership and service.
