Netflix “secret codes” are numeric IDs for Netflix’s own genre and theme collections. They are shortcuts—not keys that unlock an extra library, bypass your plan, or defeat regional restrictions.
Open a browser, sign in, and use this format:
https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/CODE
For example, https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/7424 opens the category commonly associated with anime. Netflix’s official Tudum guide confirms the URL method and says its category system contains more than 36,000 collections, although collections and titles can change.
How Netflix secret codes work
“Secret code” is an informal name for Netflix’s numerical category IDs. “Genre code,” “category code,” or “collection ID” is more accurate: each number points to a Netflix-curated shelf that may not be prominently shown on your personalized home screen.
Netflix says the system grew from its DVD-era genre tree and that curation teams continue creating highly specific or temporary collections. A category is a discovery shelf, not a strict legal definition; Netflix can group titles by genre, tone, setting, cast, language, format, or theme.

The number quoted by Netflix—more than 36,000 collections—refers to the breadth of its category system, not 36,000 active, globally available pages at one moment.
Use a code in a browser
- Open Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, or another supported browser.
- Go to Netflix and sign in to the profile you want to use.
- Enter
https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/CODE, replacingCODEwith the number. - Press Enter or Return and browse the resulting collection.
- Add suitable titles to My List if you want to watch them later on a television, phone, or streaming device.
Example: https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/1192582 takes you to the collection associated with Binge-Worthy British Crime TV Shows in Netflix’s official guide. The URL structure is confirmed by Netflix Tudum.

Movie and TV discovery
For movies
Use the broad movie codes for documentaries, horror, romance, classics, independent films, sports, and family viewing, then narrow the shelf using Netflix’s own rows or search. The 90-Minute Movies, Family Movie Night, Totally Awesome ’80s, and Movies Directed by Women collections are useful starting points when you want a specific viewing brief.
For TV shows
Use 83 for the broad TV Shows category or try focused collections such as Binge-Worthy British Crime TV Shows, Gal-Pal TV Shows, Irreverent TV Comedies, Supernatural Soaps, and K-Dramas for Beginners. Whether a collection contains a particular series depends on your country and profile.

Do codes work in the Netflix app?
The dependable method is the browser URL. Netflix’s Help Center documents ordinary text search—by title, actor, language, genre, or other terms—but does not promise that entering a numeric ID in every phone, television, console, or streaming-device app will open the matching category page.
- Computer: Use the complete URL in a supported browser.
- Phone or tablet: A mobile browser may open the page, but Netflix can hand the link to the installed app or show a less convenient view. Try the browser’s desktop-site option or use a computer.
- Smart TV, console, or streaming player: Find categories and titles in a browser, add titles to My List, then search for them in the device app.
Why a code may fail
Error page or no titles
- The number is mistyped.
- The category was renamed, retired, or is temporarily empty.
- You are signed out.
- Extra spaces, punctuation, or an incomplete URL were pasted.
- The collection is unavailable in your country or to that profile.
- Check that the address follows
https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/12345. - Remove spaces and punctuation, sign in at Netflix, and paste the full URL again.
- Retry in a desktop browser.
- Search the category name in Netflix’s search field.
- Try an official Tudum example and review your profile’s maturity and language settings.
The link redirects to Netflix’s home page
Sign in first and retry. A retired collection, an app handoff, stale session information, or a regional redirect can also cause this behavior. Clearing cookies is a later step because it signs you out of websites.

Netflix’s catalogue varies by country and changes over time. Profile maturity controls, Kids profiles, and language preferences can also affect visibility. Two subscribers using the same code can therefore see different shelves.

The titles do not fit perfectly
Netflix categories are curated and tagged groupings. Its recommendation system uses information such as genres, categories, release year, actors, and viewing interactions, so a title can appear because of its tone, themes, setting, cast, or relationship to another category. Treat the shelf as a discovery aid rather than a strict classification. See Netflix’s explanation of its recommendations system.

Country and catalogue
A code that works on the U.S. service may show different titles—or no titles—in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, or elsewhere. Netflix says availability varies by region and changes over time in What is Netflix?.
Profiles and Kids settings
Maturity restrictions and language preferences can change what appears, according to Netflix’s search and browsing guidance. Do not use codes as a way to expose children to adult categories; parental controls still apply.

Subscription plans
The category shortcut is not a Premium feature. You still need an eligible Netflix account, and normal rules for supported devices, simultaneous streams, picture quality, and catalogue access remain in force. Plan prices and features vary by country and can change, so check Netflix’s official signup page rather than relying on old price lists. Upgrading does not unlock secret categories or another country’s catalogue.
Are Netflix secret codes safe?
Entering a number on the official netflix.com domain is simply browsing a Netflix page. You do not need an extension or a third-party tool. Use code-list websites only as references, never enter Netflix credentials into them, and avoid installing an extension solely to automate a URL.
What codes cannot do
- Unlock films or shows unavailable in your country.
- Bypass a subscription, profile maturity setting, or parental control.
- Provide Netflix access without an account.
- Guarantee that every title in a category is available to every subscriber.
- Permanently change Netflix’s recommendation algorithm.
- Make an expired, cancelled, or unsupported title streamable.
- Remain active forever.
Best way to keep using them
Start with Netflix’s official guide, use the browser URL, and save promising titles to My List. If a number fails, search by the collection’s name and account for your country, profile, and the date of access. Codes reveal shelves Netflix may not prominently display; they do not reveal a second Netflix library.
