Netflix Playground adds no separate fee, ads, or in-app purchases—but it is not a free-standing service: children need access through an active Netflix membership. Netflix designed the smartphone and tablet app for children ages 8 and under, with games that can be played offline after they have been downloaded.
Is Netflix Playground free?
There is no additional Playground charge, and Netflix says its games have no ads or in-app purchases. An active Netflix membership is required, so the app is included with a paid membership rather than being a free games service on its own. Netflix explains the membership requirement in its Parent’s Guide to Netflix Playground.
Who it is for and where it works
Netflix describes Playground as a mobile games app for children ages 8 and under. It is designed for smartphones and tablets, not televisions or game consoles. As of October 8, 2026, Netflix lists these minimum requirements in its Playground support information:
- Android phones and tablets running Android 9 or later.
- iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 19 or later.
- A stable internet connection and 1.5 GB of available memory for setup.
Netflix reported global availability in an April 28, 2026 update to its launch announcement. The launch began on April 6 in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand. Individual games may not be available in every country.

How to install it and play offline
- On a compatible smartphone or tablet, download Netflix Playground from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and sign in with the Netflix account associated with an active membership.
- Choose the child’s Netflix profile, then download the available games within Playground. Setup requires an internet connection and the available memory listed above.
- After games have been set up and downloaded, Netflix says they can be played offline.
If a game does not appear, Netflix says the selected profile’s maturity setting may be below the game’s rating, or the device may be incompatible. Check the profile setting and device requirements before troubleshooting further.
What games and activities are included?
Netflix’s April 2026 launch announcement named these initial experiences: Playtime With Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Dr. Seuss’s Horton!, Storybots, Dr. Seuss’s The Sneetches, Bad Dinosaurs, Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish, Blue Fish, and Let’s Color. Netflix describes the catalog as growing, so this launch-era list is not a guarantee of the current lineup; availability also varies by country.

Game progress is linked to the Netflix profile selected in Playground. Netflix warns that deleting that profile permanently deletes its linked game progress. Choose the child’s profile deliberately, and avoid deleting it if you want to keep that progress.

Netflix’s launch announcement says that, between 2023 and 2025, the four most-watched shows and six of the top 10 titles on Netflix were from the kids’ genre, which the company called its #2 genre. That company-reported viewing figure provides context for the launch, but does not establish how children use Playground or whether its games improve learning.
For device choice, first check whether a phone or tablet the family already owns meets the operating-system and memory requirements. Netflix confirms Android tablet support but does not recommend particular models; it also supports compatible iPhones and iPads.
