Some Roku users report that Netflix will not load, buffers repeatedly, shows error tvq-000, or crashes back to the Roku home screen. Those reports do not confirm a Netflix-wide or Roku-wide outage, and they do not establish a common cause. Start by checking whether Netflix fails on other devices and whether other apps work on the affected Roku TV; then try the least disruptive fixes first.
What Roku users are reporting
- Netflix remains on its logo or loading spinner, or opens and immediately closes.
- Playback freezes or buffers repeatedly.
- The app returns to the Roku home screen, sometimes with the reported error
tvq-000. - Other apps work while Netflix does not, or the entire Roku TV becomes sluggish, freezes, or reboots.
Recent user posts describe loading, buffering, and crashing on particular Roku devices and TVs, but these are anecdotal reports rather than confirmation of an incident or its cause: a Netflix loading report, a Roku TV buffering report, and a Roku TV crash report.
A Roku TV has Roku software built into the television; a Roku streaming stick or player is a separate device connected to a TV. If Netflix works on a separate Roku player but not on the TV’s built-in Roku system, that suggests—but does not prove—a model, firmware, memory, or app-compatibility issue. No specific Roku software version, Netflix app version, or confirmed incident number is established by the available reports.

Check whether the fault is Netflix, the Roku, or the network
- Try another Netflix title and another streaming app. If only one title fails, the problem may be specific to that playback. If Netflix alone fails but other apps work, focus on Netflix or its Roku app. If multiple apps fail, look at the network or Roku TV. Roku recommends comparing titles and apps when diagnosing playback problems: Roku playback troubleshooting.
- Try Netflix on another device. Use a phone or tablet, computer browser, another TV, or a game console if available. If Netflix fails there too, a service, account, or network issue is possible. If it works elsewhere but not on the Roku, the Roku app, software, storage, or TV is more likely involved. These comparisons narrow the possibilities; they do not identify a cause on their own.
- Check whether other people are seeing the same issue. Look at Netflix or Roku support channels and a reputable outage-monitoring service. A handful of posts is not enough to establish a widespread outage.
Roku’s guidance treats loading and crashing problems as potentially related to a service interruption, connection, software, storage, or app state. It advises contacting the app provider when the problem is confined to one streaming app: Roku playback troubleshooting and Roku app-feature troubleshooting.

Fix Netflix on Roku in order
Menu labels can vary slightly by TV model and Roku software. Stop when Netflix works; a factory reset is not an early troubleshooting step.
1. Check the Roku connection
On the Roku home screen, open Home → Settings → Network → About and confirm that the TV is connected. If needed, reconnect Wi-Fi and test Netflix again. Roku notes that an unstable connection can make apps or video fail to load: Roku playback troubleshooting.

- Restart the modem and router.
- Reduce distance and obstructions between the router and TV where practical.
- If possible, test with another network or a phone hotspot. If the TV supports Ethernet, a wired test can help separate Wi-Fi trouble from other causes.
A speed test alone does not rule out connection trouble: signal stability, congestion, and other network conditions can also affect playback. Roku’s Wi-Fi guidance discusses placement and connection checks: improve your Wi-Fi connection.
2. Restart the Roku TV fully
Use Home → Settings → System → Power → System restart. If there is no Power submenu, use Home → Settings → System → System restart. Pressing the remote’s power button may only put a Roku TV into standby, rather than restarting its operating system.

If you cannot use the menu, turn off the TV, unplug it from power for at least 10–15 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on. Netflix recommends fully turning the device off and leaving it off for 15 seconds: Netflix troubleshooting for Roku. Roku also recommends unplugging for at least 10 seconds for an app error: Roku “Can’t run app” guidance.
3. Update Netflix, then Roku software
- On the Roku home screen, highlight Netflix, press the Star button, and choose Check for updates. Roku recommends checking app updates when an app will not open or crashes: Roku playback troubleshooting.
- Open Home → Settings → System → Software update → Check now to check for Roku system software. Roku includes a system update among its app-troubleshooting steps: Roku app-feature troubleshooting.
4. Remove and reinstall Netflix
This resets the app more substantially than a restart, and you will need to sign in again.

- Press Home, highlight Netflix, and press the Star button.
- Choose Remove app, then Remove.
- Restart the Roku before reinstalling, if possible.
- Add Netflix again from the Roku interface, or use the Netflix button if your remote has one, then sign in.

If Roku displays “Not enough memory,” “Insufficient memory,” or “Can’t run app,” remove unused apps and restart the TV. Roku says low storage or network problems can prevent an app from opening: Roku “Can’t run app” guidance. Do not assume memory is the cause unless you see a relevant error or other evidence.

What to do for specific symptoms
Netflix is stuck loading or shows tvq-000
Check other titles and devices, then restart and update the app before reinstalling it. The error code appears in a user report, but that report does not establish a universal diagnosis. For code-specific advice, consult Netflix Help.
Netflix buffers but does not crash
Prioritize the network check: test other apps, restart the router and Roku, and compare Wi-Fi with another available connection. Roku notes that device placement can affect wireless performance; a TV or stick positioned where the signal is obstructed may have trouble even when other checks look normal: Roku Wi-Fi guidance.
The whole TV freezes or reboots
If the Roku home screen is slow, the TV reboots, or several apps crash, do not keep repeating Netflix reinstalls. The broader symptoms point away from a Netflix-only problem and warrant checking system software, available storage, power, and the television itself. If the problem persists, contact Roku or the TV manufacturer.

Who to contact if the problem continues
- Contact Netflix if Netflix alone fails, especially when its account, sign-in, catalog, or playback also fails on other devices. Roku advises contacting the streaming service when only that app is affected: Roku app-feature troubleshooting.
- Contact Roku or the TV manufacturer if multiple apps crash, the Roku interface is slow, the TV freezes or reboots outside Netflix, or software updates fail. For a Roku TV, the manufacturer may be able to help with TV-specific hardware or firmware issues.
While diagnosing the TV, use Netflix on a phone, browser, another television, game console, or separate streaming device if one is already available. A separate device can also help determine whether the built-in Roku system is involved; it will not fix a Netflix service, account, or home-network problem.
When to consider a factory reset
Use a factory reset only after restarting, updating, reinstalling Netflix, and addressing storage or network issues have failed—and preferably after Roku or the TV manufacturer recommends it. A reset erases settings and sign-ins, so you will need to set the TV up again and re-enter app credentials. Roku explains the consequences here: factory-reset a Roku TV, player, or projector.
