If Netflix alone fails, update webOS, sign out and back in, and reinstall the app where available. If every app fails, investigate the TV’s network, webOS, LG service-country settings, or hardware before considering a factory reset.
First determine what is actually broken
Use these comparisons before changing settings:
- Netflix fails on the TV, phone, computer and another streaming device: a Netflix service or account issue is more plausible. Do not assume an outage without checking Netflix’s current status.
- Netflix works elsewhere but not on the LG TV: focus on the TV app, webOS, the TV’s network connection, or its saved Netflix session.
- Every LG TV app fails: the problem is broader than Netflix and may involve Wi-Fi, LG services, service-country settings, webOS, or hardware.
- Only Netflix fails: updating, signing out, refreshing, or reinstalling Netflix is the logical next path.

Restart the TV and network completely
Pressing the remote’s power button can leave an LG TV in standby. Netflix recommends a complete power-off rather than standby.
- Turn off the TV.
- Unplug it from the wall for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in, turn it on and open Netflix.
Then restart your network equipment:
- Unplug the modem and router for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the modem first and wait until it has internet service.
- Reconnect the router if it is a separate unit.
- Try Netflix again.
This clears a stale app state and renews the TV’s network connection without erasing accounts or settings.

Check whether Wi-Fi is the cause
- Open another streaming app on the LG TV. If it also buffers or fails, troubleshoot the network before Netflix.
- Open the TV’s network-status screen and confirm that it reports an internet connection.
- Try Ethernet if your TV and router support it, or move the router closer temporarily.
- Connect the TV to a phone hotspot and launch Netflix.
- Hotspot works: the TV is probably functioning; investigate your router, Wi-Fi signal, DNS configuration or internet provider.
- Hotspot also fails: investigate Netflix, webOS, the account session, regional settings or the TV itself.
LG specifically recommends hotspot testing for app and connectivity diagnosis: LG app troubleshooting. Changing DNS can help particular network configurations, but it is not a universal or first-line Netflix fix.
Update LG webOS
On most newer LG televisions, go to Settings → All Settings → Support → Software Update, then choose Check for Updates (or the equivalent label). LG identifies this path for webOS 5.0 and later; model, country and firmware can change the wording. If you cannot find it, search Settings for “Software Update.”
- Keep the TV connected to the internet and powered on during installation.
- Allow the TV to restart when the update finishes.
- Recheck LG user agreements afterward; an unaccepted agreement can prevent LG services and apps from working normally.
LG’s model-specific software and reset guidance is at LG support. Do not apply a firmware version meant for a different model or region.
Refresh Netflix without resetting the whole TV
Sign out and sign in again
- Open Netflix.
- Open the left-side menu or Netflix help menu.
- Choose Get Help, then Sign out, and confirm with Yes.
- Sign in again.
Depending on the app release, the control may be called Sign out, Start Over, Reset or Deactivate. These actions remove the TV’s saved session; they do not cancel or delete your Netflix membership. Netflix documents these controls at its device instructions and crash guidance at this support page.

Reinstall the app
If the TV permits app deletion, highlight Netflix on the Home screen, choose the edit or delete control, remove it, then open the LG Content Store, search for Netflix and install it again. The exact deletion icon varies by webOS version. Reinstalling the app is different from deleting your Netflix account.
Disable Quick Start+
Quick Start+ keeps the TV in a faster-resume state. Turning it off can help when Netflix repeatedly resumes a damaged state, although it is not a guaranteed cure. Search Settings for Quick Start+; a current LG path is similar to Settings → All Settings → General → System → TV Management → Quick Start+, but older and newer models place it elsewhere. Turn it off, unplug the TV for 60 seconds, reconnect it and test Netflix. LG’s app guidance is available at this page; LG’s location example for Quick Start+ is here.
Fix the symptom you see
Netflix will not open, freezes or closes
- Fully restart the TV.
- Update webOS.
- Sign out and back in if the menu opens far enough.
- Reinstall Netflix.
- Disable Quick Start+ and power-cycle again.
If other apps are also unstable, treat this as a TV platform problem rather than a Netflix login problem.
“This app will now restart to free up more memory”
Close unused apps, fully restart the TV, install pending software updates and check whether other apps fail. Repeated memory-restart messages indicate a wider memory or app-loading problem. Netflix’s LG-specific guidance is at this page.

“Temporary Error”
Restart the TV, verify its connection and follow the prompts shown in Netflix before escalating. See Netflix’s Temporary Error guidance.
Netflix opens but video buffers or will not play
Separate playback trouble from an app that cannot launch. Test another app and a phone hotspot, try Ethernet, restart the modem/router, update webOS and enable automatic date and time if available. Buffering can result from Wi-Fi quality, congestion, ISP instability, a temporary service problem or outdated software; it does not prove the TV is defective.
Netflix signs in but playback fails
Check automatic date, time zone and time settings. A clock that has drifted can interfere with secure connections even when the TV says it is online. Menu names differ by model, so search Settings for date and time options.
When Netflix is missing or cannot be installed
Check the TV’s internet connection, update webOS, open the LG Content Store and test whether another app can be downloaded. Then verify:

- The LG service-country setting matches your actual country.

- The TV’s date and time are correct.
- The model and webOS generation still support the current Netflix app.
Service-country settings affect which apps appear. LG explains the issue at its service-country support page. Menus and availability differ by country, model and firmware; a U.S. owner should not copy Korean menu labels blindly. Netflix says a 2015-or-newer Ultra HD TV with the Netflix app can support Ultra HD at 60 Hz, but that does not promise every current Netflix feature or indefinite support for every model: Netflix device guidance.
Use a factory reset only as a last resort
LG lists factory reset after other troubleshooting has failed. For webOS 5.0, the path is similar to Settings → All Settings → Support → Reset to Initial Settings; other generations differ. Confirm the exact path for your model in LG support.
A reset can erase TV settings, installed apps and sign-ins; require Wi-Fi setup, remote or external-device pairing, regional choices and renewed LG agreements. Record your Wi-Fi password, picture settings and input configuration first. Resetting will not solve an ISP outage or a failed LG service, and may make setup harder while those problems remain.

When the LG TV itself is the limiting factor
Contact LG or use an external streaming device when Netflix still fails after a full restart, network test, update, sign-out and reinstall; when the Content Store will not load; when the TV cannot maintain a connection; or when it shows random restarts, corrupted menus, overheating or other storage-related symptoms. If Netflix works reliably through HDMI on another device, the external player is a workaround for an aging or unsupported built-in platform, not a repair to webOS.

Roku players (official page), Google TV Streamer (official page), Fire TV devices (official page) and Apple TV 4K (official page) provide alternative app platforms. They cannot fix a bad router, a Netflix-wide problem or failing TV hardware, and they do not automatically improve picture quality.
