Why was Randolph’s first conviction overturned?
A jury convicted Randolph in 2017. In its December 10, 2020 decision, the Nevada Supreme Court reversed that conviction and ordered a new trial because the jury had improperly heard propensity evidence concerning the death of Randolph’s second wife. The court concluded the error was not harmless. The ruling addressed what evidence the jury could hear; it was not an acquittal on the charges involving Sharon Randolph and Michael Miller.

At a second trial in 2023, a jury again convicted Randolph of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon. The Nevada Supreme Court’s August 31, 2026 Order of Affirmance, No. 88625, affirmed the judgment and an aggregate sentence of 720 months to life. That order is the latest disposition reflected in the cited court records; it does not establish that no further proceedings can occur.
