The reported request alleges serious security offenses, criminal defamation, and harm to Israel’s diplomatic and security interests. It is a request—not evidence that participants committed an offense: the sources reviewed do not confirm that an investigation has opened, that anyone has been charged, or that officials have reached a finding.
What did Netanyahu request?
The Jerusalem Post reported that Netanyahu wrote to IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, Shin Bet Director David Zini, and Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara, asking them to launch a comprehensive investigation into participants in the documentary. The report described the alleged grounds as severe information-security offenses, criminal defamation, and damage to Israel’s diplomatic and security interests.

The film examines Israeli military targeting systems and civilian harm in Gaza, as presented by its filmmakers. The festival’s synopsis says the film “reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.” That is the festival’s description of the documentary, not an independent finding about the underlying allegations.
Who participated, and what sourcing did the filmmakers describe?
The Guardian reported that the documentary features testimony from 24 anonymized Israeli soldiers and intelligence officers. The participants’ faces and voices were disguised. The Guardian also reported the filmmakers’ account that they interviewed more than 100 people familiar with IDF systems used in the war, including senior commanders; some confidential sources did not appear in the film.
According to a filmmakers’ spokesperson quoted by The Guardian, the on-camera participants included people involved in different stages of targeting, from intelligence and operations to final authorization. The spokesperson said the team checked testimony against leaked classified documents, details of specific strikes, and additional confidential sources. These are the filmmakers’ and publisher’s descriptions of their reporting process, not findings independently established by the sources cited here.
What does the IDF say about the documentary?
The IDF disputes how the film presents its interviewees and the targeting process. In its published response, it said the anonymous interviewees generally described limited, initial intelligence stages, not the wider strike-planning and approval process. The military said the participants’ precise roles and first-hand knowledge were unknown, and argued that the film lacked specific incident details and corroborating military records.
Rank #3
The filmmakers’ response, reported by The Guardian, contests the IDF’s account of the participants’ roles and says interviews and documentary evidence corroborated the reporting. The Guardian said it stood behind the film. These opposing descriptions do not, by themselves, resolve the dispute.
The disputed allegation about a strike
The IDF also rejected the film’s presentation of an alleged strike approved with an expectation of 500 civilian deaths, saying it never planned, approved, or carried out such a strike. The filmmakers’ reporting and the IDF’s denial are competing accounts; the sources reviewed do not independently settle the claim.
Rank #4
Has an investigation been opened?
The available reporting establishes that Netanyahu asked the named officials to investigate; it does not establish that they opened a case-specific investigation or document any result. The IDF says suspected violations of law or military orders are examined and, when warranted, may lead to disciplinary action, a criminal investigation, or other measures. That is the military’s description of its general practice, not confirmation that a particular inquiry into NAZA participants is underway.
What is known about the film’s release?
The Guardian reported on September 27, 2026, that a theatrical release in 55 countries was planned for the following month, with a free digital release on the Guardian’s website planned for November. Those were plans reported at that time; current screening and availability details are not established here.
