Yes. Ne Zha 2 ranks among the top 10 films in worldwide box-office history in the available all-time ranking context. It was also the highest-grossing worldwide release of 2025, but that annual distinction is separate from its all-time standing. Its reported worldwide total varies by source and date, so the figures are best read as dated snapshots rather than one reconciled final number.
Is Ne Zha 2 one of the highest-grossing films ever?
Yes: the available all-time ranking context places the Chinese animated film within the worldwide top 10. A 2025 China film-industry memorandum described it as fifth in global all-time box-office history and first among animated films. That is a dated ranking, not a definitive current position. The sources available here do not establish a single up-to-date all-time chart using one consistent method.

Separately, Box Office Mojo’s 2025 worldwide table and the Film Distributors’ Association’s Comscore-based year-end table both rank Ne Zha 2 first among 2025 releases. Those are calendar-year rankings, not all-time rankings.
How much did Ne Zha 2 make worldwide?
There is no single reconciled total in the cited figures. Each total below belongs to a particular publisher and snapshot; the sources do not establish that their methods, exchange-rate treatment, territorial coverage, or reporting periods are identical.

The figures are different snapshots, not proof by themselves of an error. A gross can vary with the date it was collected, which territories are counted, and how currencies are converted. For a careful comparison, quote the publisher and its date alongside the number.
What do the China box-office figures measure?
The worldwide totals should not be confused with mainland-China grosses. China’s National Film Administration reported that Ne Zha 2 earned 15.446 billion yuan in mainland China through 14:30 on 13 December 2025, placing it first in the agency’s mainland-China top five for the year. In the same list, Detective Chinatown 1900 had 3.612 billion yuan and Zootopia 2 had 3.350 billion yuan. These are China-market, calendar-year statistics, not worldwide lifetime totals.
Earlier milestones are also tied to their dates. In a report republished from Xinhua, the National Film Administration said the film’s box office, including presales, passed 6.7922 billion yuan by 21:00 on 7 February 2025. At that point it exceeded the North American gross of Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a single-market record. The report said it passed 7 billion yuan by 8 February. Those were contemporaneous milestones, not final totals.

Ne Zha 2—Chinese title 哪吒之魔童闹海, shortened in the official report to 哪吒2—is rooted in traditional Chinese mythology. China’s National Film Administration highlighted cultural elements in the character designs and settings, including Ne Zha’s clothing, Taiyi Zhenren’s magical artifacts, the undersea Dragon Palace, and Kunlun’s immortal realm.
The report also says the film’s “boundary beast” was inspired by bronze figures from the Sanxingdui and Jinsha archaeological sites. Liu Wenzhang, CEO of Chengdu Coco Cartoon and producer of the Ne Zha films, said: “我们在电影创作中融入了大量文化元素,让观众印象深刻。”
The film’s reach has extended into merchandise as well: reporting on its commercial activity describes partnerships with more than 23 brands, including collectible toys, and Ne Zha-series figurines displayed at a Paris cultural and creative exhibition. That reporting does not establish the licensing or current availability of any particular collectible.
Quick Recap
How to read the record claims
- Worldwide all-time: The available ranking context supports “among the top 10,” but does not settle an exact current position on a harmonized all-time chart.
- Worldwide in 2025: Box Office Mojo and the Film Distributors’ Association each list the film first in their respective annual tables.
- Animation: Guinness World Records names it the highest-grossing animated film, using a figure credited to The Numbers and dated 30 June 2025.
- Mainland China: The National Film Administration’s yuan figures describe the domestic market and specified reporting dates, not the worldwide gross.
