Yes. NCIS season 23 opened with “Prodigal Son,” a two-part story whose episodes aired one week apart: Part 1 on October 14, 2025, and Part 2 on October 21, according to CBS’s season 23 episode listing. The “20-year streak” framing refers to the long gap since an earlier two-part season opener, not to the first two-part story in the show’s history.
What were the two premiere episodes?
| Episode | Title | CBS-listed date |
|---|---|---|
| Season 23, episode 1 | “Prodigal Son, Part 1” | October 14, 2025 |
| Season 23, episode 2 | “Prodigal Son, Part 2” | October 21, 2025 |
CBS lists the installments as separate episodes a week apart. The premiere was therefore a two-part story, not a single two-hour broadcast, based on the schedule shown in the official episode listing.

What does the “20-year streak” mean?
The season 23 opener ended a long interval without a two-part season premiere; it did not mark the first time NCIS used a two-part opener. A fan-maintained series history identifies season 3’s “Kill Ari (Part I)” as part of a two-part season opener. The available historical reference supports that earlier example, but does not independently verify every season’s premiere or establish an exact, season-by-season count of the intervening gap. Treat “20-year streak” as the headline’s framing rather than a fully audited episode-history statistic.
How did season 23 finish?
CBS lists “Sons and Daughters” as season 23, episode 20, and the season finale, dated May 12, 2026. The same CBS episode page provides the premiere and finale listings.
