NCIS Season 22, Episode 12, “Fun and Games,” aired February 10, 2025. Its story pairs the fatal poisoning of someone in Kasie’s forensic-science circle with Pentagon questioning about McGee’s book. The result is a Kasie-focused hour whose humor and tonal turn divide reviewers more than its premise suggests.
What happens in “Fun and Games”?
CBS’s official synopsis sets up two concurrent threads: the team investigates the fatal poisoning of one of Kasie’s forensic scientists, while McGee faces questions from the Pentagon about the contents of his book. That pairing gives the episode both a case-of-the-week mystery and a story about scrutiny of McGee’s writing. CBS lists the episode as 41 minutes and rates it TV-PG V, L. CBS episode page.

Does the episode’s humor and tonal shift work?
Not consistently, according to the more critical response. Elizabeth Learned’s indexed One Chicago Center review describes the hour as disjointed and forgettable rather than terrible, pointing to humor that does not reliably land and a late tonal pivot that feels hollow. That judgment is best understood as a critique of how the episode’s different modes fit together, not as a claim that the premise or every scene fails.
Why do reviewers disagree about the Kasie focus?
The Kasie-centered angle is the episode’s clearest point of appeal for other critics. Lissete Lanuza Sáenz of Fangirlish reads it through chosen family, lessons, and taking control of one’s narrative. TV Fanatic’s Carissa Pavlica calls the Kasie-centric installment a treat, while CBR’s Brittany Frederick gives it 5/10 and criticizes its humor. The responses are mixed: viewers who value a rare focus on Kasie may find more to enjoy than those who want the comedy and tonal transitions to feel seamless. Rotten Tomatoes episode page.

Who is the familiar guest star?
The episode’s accessible indexed listings name Neal Honda, Charley Koontz, and Meredith Eaton among its guest performers, but they do not establish which one the title’s “familiar guest star” refers to or verify that performer’s character in this episode. Without an authoritative episode credit or confirmation from the episode itself, naming one person as the answer would be guesswork.
Is “Fun and Games” worth watching?
It is a reasonable choice if you are especially interested in Kasie or in the consequences of McGee’s book becoming a subject of Pentagon attention. Go in with measured expectations if a tightly integrated case, dependable comedy, or a smooth tonal progression matters most to you: critics disagree about the episode’s strengths, and one prominent review finds its parts do not cohere. The verdict is a qualified diversion, not an essential hour for every viewer.
