The Los Angeles Times later reported that prosecutors added five counts, bringing the reported total to 12. These are allegations, not findings of guilt. Olds pleaded not guilty and, through his lawyer, denied the allegations and said the sexual contact was consensual.
What was Gabriel Olds charged with?
In an August 8, 2024 announcement, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Olds faced seven felony counts in case 24ARCF01116. The office said the initial charges concerned three women and alleged conduct between 2013 and 2023. The charge list was:
- Three counts of forcible rape.
- One count of rape of an unconscious or asleep person.
- One count of sodomy by use of force.
- One count of assault with intent to commit a felony.
- One count of injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend, or child’s parent.
The DA’s release said that, if convicted as charged, Olds could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. That was a potential penalty stated at the time, not a sentence or case outcome. The announcement described allegations; it did not establish that the conduct occurred. Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, August 8, 2024.
How the case developed
August 7, 2024: Arrest announced
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers arrested Olds near Norway Lane and Norman Place at about 9:40 a.m. on August 7 and booked him on an arrest warrant. LAPD said its investigation began after a report in January 2023 and that it had received other reports. The department described three women as reporting assault and two others as reporting lesser violent sexual conduct, and asked potential victims and witnesses to contact investigators. These descriptions were the police account of reports and allegations, not court findings. LAPD release, August 7, 2024.

What Olds and his lawyer said
In the September 9 report, the Times quoted Olds’s lawyer, Leonard Levine, as saying Olds had pleaded not guilty to all allegations, denied them, and maintained that the sexual contact was consensual. That is the defense position, not a finding by a court. A criminal charge is not a conviction; the allegations must be resolved through the legal process.
