A storyteller guides a small group through Irish folklore, myths and legends. Choose the daytime tour for the family-oriented experience listed by the museum for ages six and up, or Darkland for darker tales and an 18+ audience. Because age guidance, schedules and prices can vary by listing and date, check the specific session before you book.
What the visit is like
The daytime visit unfolds as a guided story rather than a self-directed tour of display cases. A storyteller leads the group from stop to stop and performs tales rooted in Irish folklore, myth and legend. The museum presents its subject through oral tradition and imagination; visitors should not expect an authoritative archive of folklore or evidence about the historical existence of leprechauns.
Founder Tom O’Rahilly describes the idea behind the venue: “A museum seemed the way to build a place where conversations about the impossible but not improbable could happen.” The museum’s What To Expect page gives more detail about the concept and format.
Choose between daytime storytelling and Darkland
| Experience | Audience and tone | Duration and timing | Price and language |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime storytelling | The museum lists it for ages 6+; family-oriented Irish folklore, myths and legends | 45–50 minutes; listed every half-hour from 10:30 to 17:30 | €13–€18 listed; English. Irish may be arranged according to the visitor information page. |
| Darkland | Strictly 18+; macabre and darker Irish tales | 60 minutes; regular listings say Thursday–Saturday evenings from 19:00; verify the date | €22–€24 listed on the experiences page; English only; ID may be required. |
These schedules and price ranges come from the operator’s pages and can change. The museum’s daytime pages state a minimum age of six, while Visit Dublin lists seven and up. Check the eligibility rules for your chosen session when booking. In October 2026, the museum advertises a special Darkland edition, “The Last Boat,” in place of regular Darkland for that month; consult the experiences and booking page for the date and format you want. The museum’s Darkland page describes the adults-only experience.

Address and contact
The address is 2/3 Mary’s Abbey, Dublin 7; Visit Dublin lists the postal code as D07 X6R6. The museum’s contact page gives the phone number +353 1 873 3899 and email address [email protected]. See the museum contact page for current details.
Opening hours and timed sessions
Published opening hours are Sunday–Wednesday, 10:00–17:30, and Thursday–Saturday, 10:30–20:30. These are not the same as tour start times: the daytime tours are listed every half-hour from 10:30 to 17:30, and Darkland has separate evening listings. Book a specific session and reconfirm the hours and availability for your date. The museum recommends booking ahead because spaces are limited. Its home page and experiences page carry current visit and booking information.

Access and facilities
The museum says it is on one level with no steps, has seating in all spaces and keeps lighting low for atmosphere. The experience is guided throughout. Irish-language storytelling may be arranged, while the listed tours are live in English. Visit Dublin lists toilets and a gift shop; the museum’s official pages do not give details about current shop stock.
The published information does not establish wheelchair turning clearances, accessible toilet facilities or sensory accommodations. Contact the venue before booking if you need details about these or another specific access requirement.

What to keep in mind about the folklore
The attraction frames its subject as Irish oral tradition and imagination. The museum’s What To Expect page makes broad claims about Ireland’s folklore collection and literary history, but does not cite a source or publication year for those figures. Treat them as the museum’s own framing rather than independently verified statistics.
