The strongest Sharingan ability depends on what “strongest” means: battlefield protection, a decisive attack, information, or control over another person. This ranking weighs demonstrated tactical impact, versatility, range, defensive value, counterplay, and user cost. It includes both broad Sharingan functions and named Mangekyo techniques, and covers Naruto and Boruto, including Sarada’s Ohirume. The order is an editorial comparison, not an official franchise ranking.
How this ranking treats the Sharingan
The Sharingan is not a single technique. Some entries below are broad capabilities associated with the eye; others are specific Mangekyo Sharingan powers. Ranking them together is useful for comparing what a wielder can accomplish, but it means the list is not comparing ten abilities at precisely the same level.
The story also gives the Sharingan different origins and stages. The official Naruto episode guide says Obito gave Kakashi the Sharingan in his left eye as a promotion gift; Obito later leaves him the Mangekyo Sharingan. The episode 693 synopsis offers a clear example of an inherited eye and its later Mangekyo state.
The 10 best Sharingan abilities, ranked
10. Sharingan perception
At its broadest, the Sharingan is a perceptual advantage: it helps its wielder read what is happening in a fight and respond with better information. That makes it valuable before any named Mangekyo technique enters the picture. Its strength is practical and flexible rather than a single overwhelming effect; perception alone does not guarantee that a user can avoid every attack or win an unfavorable exchange.

9. Sharingan genjutsu
The Sharingan’s genjutsu potential gives its user a way to attack an opponent’s perceptions instead of relying only on physical force. It belongs on a list of the eye’s important functions, but it should not be confused with the more specific, high-impact Mangekyo illusion Tsukuyomi. The available official examples do not establish that Sharingan genjutsu is impossible to resist.
8. Copying and reading an opponent’s moves
The eye’s ability to help a fighter interpret an opponent’s actions can turn observation into a tactical response. That is a different kind of power from a destructive technique: it can help a user adapt, but its usefulness depends on having the time and ability to act on what the user perceives. The official material cited for this ranking does not quantify how reliably or broadly this function works, so it belongs below the techniques with clearly documented decisive outcomes.

7. Amaterasu
Amaterasu is a named Mangekyo technique and is often discussed among the Sharingan’s most dangerous powers. The official material available for this ranking does not provide a sufficiently complete description of its mechanics or limitations to compare its range, counterplay, and cost in detail. It is included as a notable named ability, but ranked below entries whose tactical effects are directly described in the cited official summaries.
6. Kamui
Kamui is another named Mangekyo technique with major importance in the Naruto story. The official summaries used here do not provide enough detail to make a precise, source-grounded comparison of its mechanics, range, or limitations. Its placement is therefore cautious rather than a claim that it is inherently weaker than every ability above it.

5. Tsukuyomi
Tsukuyomi is a Mangekyo genjutsu that can make an apparent event feel real to its target. The official synopsis for episode 357 explains that Sasuke’s apparent eye loss was an illusion created by the Mangekyo Sharingan and that he broke free of Tsukuyomi by force. The official retrospective likewise identifies the eye-gouging scene as an illusion induced by Itachi’s Tsukuyomi. That is a striking demonstration of perception manipulation, but Sasuke’s escape means it should not be described as universally irresistible.
4. Kotoamatsukami
Kotoamatsukami’s defining strength is covert influence, not a visible attack. An official Naruto feature says Shisui’s technique can control a target without the target realizing it and change that person’s heart. That makes it unusually powerful where hidden control matters more than immediate damage. The feature points readers to Naruto volumes 49 and 58 and chapters 459 and 550. The cited description establishes its covert effect, not a destructive blast or a universal ability to control any target in any circumstance.
Rank #4

3. Ohirume
Ohirume brings Sarada’s Boruto-era ability into the ranking. In an entry dated October 8, 2025, the official Boruto database says Sarada can create up to four black spheres, roughly 5 to 250 centimeters in size, and control their gravity. The spheres can also detonate. She can choose which visible targets are affected, although targeting living beings also affects Sarada.
That combination of controllable gravity, selectable visible targets, and detonation gives Ohirume several tactical uses in one technique. Its costs are unusually explicit: the database says it consumes overwhelming chakra and repeated use worsens Sarada’s eyesight toward blindness. Those limits make it powerful but not free to use.

2. Susano’o
Susano’o is a protective chakra construct with distinct defensive and offensive value. In its retrospective, the official Naruto site describes “Protective chakra [forming] the likeness of the warrior god Susano’o around Itachi” and recounts the Totsuka Blade sealing Orochimaru. A separate official episode guide says Sasuke’s Susano’o protected Team 7 from the Infinite Tsukuyomi. These examples show why it ranks so highly: protection and sealing are separate tactical strengths, not merely different ways of describing a powerful attack.
1. Izanagi and Izanami
These named Mangekyo techniques are often placed among the Sharingan’s most consequential abilities, but the official sources used for this ranking do not supply complete descriptions of their mechanics, costs, or counterplay. A precise claim that either outranks the documented effects of Susano’o, Ohirume, or Kotoamatsukami would go beyond that evidence. Their position here is therefore a cautious inclusion in a franchise-wide list rather than a definitive claim about how they work or which one is stronger.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ranking says about “strongest”
There is no single winner across every situation. Susano’o has documented protection and sealing; Kotoamatsukami stands out for covert control; Tsukuyomi demonstrates severe illusion-based disruption but can be escaped; and Ohirume combines several offensive options while carrying stated chakra and eyesight costs. A broader Sharingan function can be useful in many encounters, while a named Mangekyo technique may be more decisive in a narrower one. The best choice depends on what the fight—or the user’s objective—requires.
