Naomi Osaka announced on January 6, 2025, that she and rapper Cordae were no longer in a relationship. She described the split as having “no bad blood,” praised him as a person and a father, and said she was glad their paths had crossed.
What Osaka said about the split
Osaka shared the announcement in an Instagram Story. The Associated Press reproduced her statement: “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad,” Osaka wrote. “Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
Her public message was appreciative; it did not explain why the relationship ended. The announcement itself is not evidence of any particular reason or private arrangement.
How long were Naomi Osaka and Cordae together?
Reports say their relationship began in 2019, and the two publicly confirmed it that year. Because the reports do not give an exact anniversary, “nearly six years” is more precise than claiming they were together for exactly six years.

They have a daughter
The Associated Press reported that Osaka and Cordae’s daughter was born in Los Angeles in July 2023. Tennis.com identifies her as Shai. Osaka referred to her daughter as her “biggest blessing” in the January 2025 statement. The announcement does not establish details of the family’s private parenting arrangements.
What was happening in Osaka’s tennis season?
The announcement came shortly before the 2025 Australian Open. Osaka had reached the final of the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she stopped playing because of an injury after taking the first set. Reports place these events close together in time; they do not connect the injury to the breakup.
