There is no official Marvel weakest-to-strongest list, and Marvel’s published material does not establish a complete census of every named symbiote. This guide ranks the named, main-continuity symbiote identities covered by Marvel’s official host guide, character pages, and retrospectives, using broad tiers rather than pretending the stories provide a precise power scale. Knull is discussed separately: he is a symbiote creator and commander, not a symbiote being himself.
What this ranking includes—and what it cannot settle
“Every named symbiote” is a moving target. Marvel’s official host material and its Venomverse feature span multiple hosts, stories, and alternate versions; they do not supply a definitive census or a shared measure of strength. The list below is therefore limited to the main-continuity identities named in Marvel’s official material covered here: Agony, Lasher, Phage, Riot, Scream (later known as Silence), Venom, Hybrid, Toxin, Anti-Venom, Sleeper, and Carnage.
The ranking treats a named symbiote as the subject even when its host has changed. Hybrid is included as a named composite; it is not counted again as four separate entries. She-Venom is a host identity, not a separate symbiote, so she is not ranked independently. Venomverse variants and other alternate-universe versions are excluded rather than mixed into a main-continuity comparison.
Marvel’s material does not give these characters comparable scores or a consistent set of head-to-head results. The tiers below are editorial judgments based on the story roles and scale identified in the cited official material, not an official Marvel classification or a claim that each character wins every encounter.

Weakest to strongest: the named symbiotes in tiers
| Tier | Symbiote identities | Why they sit here |
|---|---|---|
| 1 — Lower tier | Agony, Lasher, Phage, Riot, Scream (Silence) | Marvel’s Carnage character page and Venom retrospective identify these as the Life Foundation group. The official material establishes their identities and connections, but does not provide a reliable individual strength ranking among them; they share a tier rather than receive arbitrary separate places. |
| 2 — Established and specialized | Venom, Hybrid, Anti-Venom, Sleeper | These are distinct named identities in Marvel’s broader Venom history. Hybrid is a named combination of the Life Foundation symbiotes, while the official host guide and retrospective place Venom, Anti-Venom, and Sleeper within the wider story. The surfaced material does not compare their capabilities on a common scale, so their order within this tier is not established. |
| 3 — Highest individual tier in this list | Carnage, Toxin | Marvel’s official pages give both characters prominent roles in the symbiote story history. Marvel’s Toxin feature describes the character’s ties to Venom, Carnage, Scream/Silence, and Sleeper, but does not establish a definitive winner between Toxin and Carnage. Their positions together at the top of this character ranking are an editorial synthesis, not a stated Marvel verdict. |
Tier 1: Agony, Lasher, Phage, Riot, and Scream
Marvel’s Venom retrospective identifies Agony, Lasher, Riot, Phage, and Scream as the five Venom clones associated with the Life Foundation, and describes their later connection to Hybrid. Marvel’s Carnage character page also names Leslie Gesneria/Agony, Ramon Hernandez/Lasher, Carl Mach/Phage, Trevor Cole/Riot, and Donna Diego/Scream among Carnage-related symbiotes.
Those sources establish group membership and story connections, not a defensible ordering such as “Riot is stronger than Phage.” Putting these five in one lower tier reflects the available comparison, not a claim that they have identical abilities or outcomes in every story.

- 6-inch scale Marvel Legends Deadpool figure
- Detailed, black formalwear Symbiote suit design
- Includes 6 Deadpool-inspired accessories (mainly weapons, obviously)
- Inspired by Deadpool Back in Black comic (comic not available)
- Ages 4 and up
Tier 2: Venom, Hybrid, Anti-Venom, and Sleeper
Venom is the central reference point in Marvel’s retrospective, which also discusses Hybrid, Anti-Venom, and Toxin in the character’s wider history. Hybrid stands apart because it is a named combination linked to the Life Foundation symbiotes; it should not be treated as an ordinary single-symbiote comparison. Marvel’s host guide also mentions Sleeper and stories involving Toxin, but the official material covered here does not establish a consistent ranking among Sleeper, Venom, Hybrid, and Anti-Venom.
They share a tier to recognize their distinct places in the story without inventing a precise result from incomparable appearances. A host’s contribution and the circumstances of a particular story can also change what a symbiote accomplishes.

Tier 3: Carnage and Toxin
Carnage and Toxin occupy the highest tier among the individual symbiotes in this guide, but Marvel’s official descriptions do not settle which one is stronger overall. Marvel’s Toxin feature says Venom officially named the symbiote Toxin and connects its story to Carnage, Venom, Scream/Silence, and Sleeper. Those relationships make Toxin a major part of the family history, not proof of a fixed victory over any one of them.
Carnage’s placement reflects his prominent role in Marvel’s symbiote material; Toxin’s reflects his standing in that same connected history. The available official pages do not supply a common set of feats or a permanent power level that would justify a more exact ordering.

Where Knull fits—and why he is not in the ranking
Knull is the strongest symbiote-related figure in the material covered here, but he is not a symbiote being. Marvel describes him as the “King in Black” and “God of the Abyss,” and its King in Black (2020) #1 synopsis says an army of hundreds of thousands of symbiote dragons accompanies him. That is Marvel’s fictional story description, not an independently measured statistic. It supports placing Knull above the symbiotes in this guide in terms of narrative scale, but not adding him as one more symbiote entry.
Marvel’s Knull reading-list material also calls him “The Abyss Made Flesh” and “The Destroyer of Stars.” These are Marvel’s editorial descriptions, not a shared scoring system. This guide does not rank All-Black as a symbiote identity or treat Knull’s weapons and forces as separate symbiotes.

How to read the tiers
- They are not a fight simulator. A ranking cannot account for every host, circumstance, or story-specific outcome.
- Host and symbiote are not interchangeable. A host can affect how a bonded character performs; this list ranks named symbiote identities, not hosts as though they were separate symbiotes.
- Close placements are deliberately grouped. Marvel’s cited official pages identify characters and relationships but do not furnish a numerical scale or consistent one-on-one comparisons.
- The roster is bounded, not exhaustive across all Marvel publishing. Alternate versions and multiverse variants are outside this main-continuity guide, and the official material does not establish that this list exhausts every named symbiote in Marvel history.
Where to start reading
For the Life Foundation group and its connection to Hybrid, start with Marvel’s Venom retrospective and Carnage character page. Marvel’s Toxin feature is the most direct entry point for Toxin’s naming and family connections; the official host guide provides a broader overview of hosts and related stories. For the scale of Knull’s role, consult Marvel’s Knull reading-list material and its King in Black (2020) #1 description. Marvel’s Venomverse feature is relevant if you want to explore alternate versions beyond this ranking.
