The Myst Linking Book is Cyan’s 1:1-scale physical replica of the book prop from the game, made for the series’ 25th anniversary. Existing books were manufactured in 2018; Cyan’s 2025 resale offered remaining Kickstarter stock, and the company said it had no plans for another resale. The collectible is not the same thing as the fictional Linking Books, Myst novels, or a strategy guide.
What is the Myst Linking Book?
It is a collectible replica of the book prop seen in Myst, produced by Cyan for the game’s 25th anniversary. Cyan describes it as a 1:1 exact-scale replica. Its published dimensions are 7 × 9 × 2.5 inches (18 × 25 × 6 cm), and its listed weight is 2.71 pounds (1.23 kg). The construction is 1200g grey board and art paper with a matte finish, embossed detailing, and gold foil on the logo and edges of the leather art treatments. Cyan’s product specifications identify the physical collectible and its materials.

Which version has a screen and accessories?
Cyan’s specification sheet distinguishes the variants. The Maintainer and Writer versions include an 800 × 480 IPS LCD screen and a speaker; those features should not be assumed for every version. The Writer version is also associated with Gehn’s pen and inkwell.
| Version or item | Documented details |
|---|---|
| Maintainer | 800 × 480 IPS LCD screen and speaker, according to Cyan’s product specifications. |
| Writer | 800 × 480 IPS LCD screen and speaker; associated with Gehn’s pen and inkwell, according to Cyan’s product specifications. |
| Other version | Screen and speaker are not attributed to every version by Cyan’s specification sheet. |
| Gehn’s pen | Wood with metal accents; 7 inches (17.78 cm) long. |
| Gehn’s inkwell | Die-cast zinc alloy with antiqued brass plating; 5.25 × 3.5 inches (13.35 × 8.89 cm); 1.75 pounds (0.8 kg). |
These are Cyan’s published product specifications, not a guarantee that a secondhand copy includes all accessories or that its electronics still work. For an individual listing, ask the seller to identify the variant and show the included parts.

When was it made, and can it still be bought from Cyan?
Cyan says all existing units were manufactured in 2018 and initially offered to Kickstarter backers at the “Bookmaker” tier or above. Its 2025 resale consisted of remaining stock held from that campaign; the company said no new units had been made since the Kickstarter and that it had no plans for another resale of that stock. That describes Cyan’s stated plans at the time of its resale FAQ, not a guarantee that the company can never change them. Check Cyan’s resale FAQ for its published account.
The documents establish the 2025 offer and Cyan’s stated plan; they do not establish current inventory. If looking on a secondary marketplace, search for “Myst 25th Anniversary Linking Book,” then verify the actual offer rather than assuming a listing is official, available, complete, or authentic. No current price or verified sale value is established here. Cyan characterized the collectible as coveted and noted that it had sold for more on other marketplaces, but that is not a market-price study.

What to check before buying a used book
Compare listings by the details that affect what you will receive and whether it works:
- Variant: Confirm whether it is standard, Maintainer, or Writer; do not infer electronics from the title or photos alone.
- Screen and speaker: For a Maintainer or Writer copy, ask for a current demonstration of the display and audio, not just a claim that they worked previously.
- Writer accessories: Confirm whether Gehn’s pen and inkwell are included and inspect their condition.
- Physical condition: Request clear photographs of the cover, spine, edges, and interior, and ask about damage or wear.
- Charging and battery behavior: Ask how the LCD version charges and whether it can play audio and video unplugged. A seller’s result applies only to that copy.
- Seller, provenance, and buyer protection: Review the seller’s history and the protections provided by the marketplace for that particular transaction.
Can the LCD battery be replaced?
Cyan says the LCD battery is inaccessible without disassembling the book. The item was not designed to be disassembled, and Cyan provides no recommendation or guidance for battery replacement. Its care instructions advise using the cable supplied with the LCD version and a power source rated for the charging requirements in the accompanying document. Read Cyan’s care guidance before charging or attempting any repair.

Cyan also reported a functionality check conducted October 17–24, 2025: it selected five LCD books made in 2018 and stored in a room-temperature, low-humidity environment, charged them fully, left them unplugged for one week, and checked charge indication and playback. All five showed 100% charge at the first check and played audio and video; after playback, they showed an average of about 70% charge. This was a small manufacturer-run check of selected stored units, not a battery-life guarantee for a particular book or for all surviving copies.
Does Cyan’s warranty cover a secondhand purchase?
No. Cyan’s limited warranty was for Linking Books purchased from its store during the 2025 resale, so it should not be assumed to cover an original Kickstarter purchase or a third-party marketplace transaction. For eligible 2025 resale purchases, LCD or battery functionality issues on LCD models could be reported within six months of purchase. Shipping damage and missing or defective pen and inkwell parts had a one-month-from-delivery reporting window. Customer-caused damage and ordinary wear were excluded, and the policy offered no replacements because supply was limited. See Cyan’s warranty terms for the scope and reporting windows.

Can Gehn’s pen and inkwell be purchased separately?
Cyan says it has no separate stock of the pen and inkwell, so they cannot be bought separately from the company; its answer does not rule out a secondhand listing. Verify that an individual seller actually has the accessories and confirm their condition before purchase. Cyan’s FAQ addresses separate accessory availability.
