Before Sister Wives Season 19 aired, Mykelti Brown Padron said she was nervous about how the show would address her half-brother Garrison Brown’s death. She hoped the coverage would treat Garrison respectfully and keep the focus on him, rather than letting family conflict dominate the story.
What Mykelti said about the show’s coverage
In August 2024, ahead of Season 19, Mykelti discussed the subject during a YouTube Live with her husband, Tony Padron. The Ashley’s Reality Roundup reported her saying, “I’m so nervous about how they handle all the Garrison stuff.” She also said she had heard possible approaches and “I don’t love any of their ideas on it.” (The Ashley’s Reality Roundup; general concern also reported by Monsters and Critics.)

These were advance comments about how she thought the series might handle the subject—not a direct interview with the show’s producers or a judgment on episodes viewers had already seen. Her stated hope was for a respectful remembrance centered on Garrison, rather than coverage led by the family’s disputes.
Who Garrison Brown was
Garrison was the son of Kody and Janelle Brown and Mykelti’s half-brother. He died by suicide in March 2024, at age 25. (Los Angeles Times.)

How Season 19 later addressed his death
Season 19 went on to include family accounts and moments of reflection and remembrance. That later coverage is distinct from Mykelti’s earlier concern: her comments expressed what she hoped the series would do before its treatment of the loss aired. (What to Watch.)
Her remarks do not, by themselves, establish that the finished episodes were disrespectful. They identify the standard she wanted the show to meet: remember Garrison as a person, rather than make his death primarily a vehicle for family turmoil.
