Western Australian contestants Danielle Oakman and Marko Savic made their My Kitchen Rules debut as gatecrashers in 2025, hoping to represent Perth with food rooted in family and culture. They reached the top five, but their season ended when Justin and Will beat them in the first semi-final.
Who are Marko and Danielle on My Kitchen Rules?
Danielle Oakman and Marko Savic were one of three late-arriving teams on the 2025 season of the Australian cooking competition. PerthNow introduced them on 14 September 2025 as the season’s first gatecrashers, just before they were due to host their first Instant Restaurant. The couple said they had met at a music festival seven years earlier and were living with Marko’s family while saving for their first home.
In its profile, PerthNow described Marko as being of Serbian descent and Danielle as part-Chinese. Marko framed their regional identity as central to their place in the competition: “Danielle and I are WA personified, we’re Perth personified.” He also described them as “underdogs” who were hardworking but relaxed. How did family and culture shape their cooking?
Danielle linked her interest in cooking to her parents, telling PerthNow: “My parents inspired my love for cooking. There is nothing better than a good home-cooked meal.” Marko said he grew up around Serbian and Balkan flavours. His ideal meal was lamb slowly cooking on a spit outdoors while he spent time with friends.

How far did they get on MKR in 2025?
They survived a close cook-off
By 28 October 2025, Danielle and Marko had escaped elimination in a cook-off by one point, according to 7NEWS, and were preparing their Ultimate Instant Restaurant. Danielle said they understood how they worked together and communicated in the kitchen: “Marko and I know how we work together in the kitchen and we’re usually really good at communicating.” 7NEWS reported on their next stage.
Their season ended in the semi-final
Danielle and Marko made the top five, but did not reach the grand final. In the first semi-final, reported by New Idea on 11 November 2025, Justin and Will were chosen over them. The couple said they were proud of their final cook. Danielle reflected: “Would have loved to get the win, but I feel like we went out with a really good cook that we’re both really proud of. What PerthNow reported about Marko’s work and Danielle’s following
PerthNow’s September 2025 profile reported that Danielle had 12,000 social-media followers at the time; that is a dated figure, not a current count. The article also reported that Marko became Australia’s youngest truck-driving assessor of his kind since 1981 when he was 22. That comparison is attributed here to PerthNow’s report.
