Connor Smith, who appeared on MTV’s Are You the One? in 2015, was arrested in Clearwater, Florida, on March 28, 2024, on an Illinois warrant, CBS Chicago reported. Lake County authorities alleged that he had arranged to meet someone he believed was a girl under 15; the person was, according to authorities, an undercover detective. An arrest and warrant are not proof of guilt.
What authorities alleged about the 2023 incident
Lake County authorities said the allegations stemmed from online communications in February 2023. According to the account reproduced by FOX 32 Chicago and PEOPLE/Yahoo, Smith allegedly communicated with an undercover detective posing as a girl under 15, sent explicit images and videos, and arranged a meeting. The alleged meeting was with the undercover detective—not an actual minor, according to the authorities’ account.
Authorities said Smith drove to meet the person on February 9, 2023. They reported that detectives attempted to arrest him when he arrived and that he escaped in his vehicle. That description is the police account reported by local outlets; it is not an independently established finding.
The warrant, charges and 2024 arrest
Contemporary reporting on February 10, 2023, described the warrant as involving three felony counts: traveling to meet a minor, grooming, and disseminating harmful material. Those are descriptive labels used in the coverage, not independently verified statutory charge names.

CBS Chicago reported that the FBI arrested Smith in Clearwater on March 28, 2024, under an active Illinois warrant. He was 33 at the time, and the report said he was held at Pinellas County Jail awaiting extradition to Illinois. FOX 32 Chicago quoted Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli saying: “It’s a nationwide warrant,” and that Smith “can be arrested anywhere in the country” and would be extradited to Lake County to face the charges. The quote appeared in FOX 32’s contemporaneous coverage.
What is known about the case outcome
The available reports establish the arrest and the reported allegations, but do not establish a later plea, trial result, conviction, dismissal, or current custody status. No conclusion about the outcome should be drawn from the arrest coverage alone.

Why Smith was identified as an MTV cast member
Smith appeared on season 3 of MTV’s Are You the One? in 2015, according to CBS Chicago. That is background identifying the person in the headline; it has no bearing on whether the allegations are true.
