MSNBC is now called MS NOW, short for “My Source News Opinion World.” The change accompanied the network’s move to Versant, a new media company separate from NBCUniversal and NBC News. That corporate separation was completed on January 2, 2026, according to a Versant filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
What does MS NOW stand for?
MS NOW stands for “My Source News Opinion World.” The network’s official FAQ identifies MS NOW as the network formerly known as MSNBC and gives that expansion. MS NOW’s FAQ uses the wording: “MS NOW (previously MSNBC) stands for My Source News Opinion World.”
Why did MSNBC change its name?
In an August 18, 2025 message to its community, the network said the name change was part of its move to Versant, a new media company. It also stated that it would no longer be part of NBCUniversal and NBC News. The announcement explains the change in terms of that corporate transition; it does not establish a more specific motive for choosing the new name.
The name was recorded in a 2025 SEC-hosted filing as “My Source News Opinion World (MS NOW),” with the change planned toward the end of that year. The network’s announcement and FAQ are the sources for the brand’s stated expansion.

Is MS NOW still part of NBCUniversal?
No. The separation from Comcast, NBCUniversal’s parent company, is complete. A 2026 SEC filing says Comcast distributed Versant common shares to its shareholders on January 2, 2026, and lists MS NOW among Versant’s businesses. That makes MS NOW part of Versant rather than NBCUniversal or NBC News.
What changes for viewers?
The network said familiar hosts and journalists would remain during the transition. That was its stated commitment, not confirmation that every host, program, or newsroom arrangement has stayed unchanged since then.

The rebrand itself does not establish a need to buy a new television, antenna, or streaming device. The network’s official announcement and FAQ describe a name and corporate transition, not a new physical product viewers must obtain to understand the change.

The network’s FAQ says it plans to launch a membership later in 2026. The FAQ does not confirm a launch date, current availability, or price, so it should be treated as a planned service rather than something viewers can already sign up for based on that information.
