Netflix set Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story to premiere globally on September 19, 2024. That date has passed: the second installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology is now streaming on Netflix. It is a dramatization of a contested criminal case, not a neutral documentary record.

What is the Menendez series about?
Netflix describes the story as a dramatization of the brothers’ case: Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. The prosecution argued that the brothers killed their parents for financial gain; the brothers said their actions stemmed from abuse. Those are competing positions in the case, and the series presents a dramatic interpretation rather than serving as a neutral case record.
