Disney announced Moana 2 on February 7, 2024, as a feature-length theatrical sequel, and the film opened in theaters on November 27, 2024. The headline’s word “Scores” does not identify a review outlet or rating, so it should not be read as a claim about the film’s score.
When was Moana 2 announced, and when did it come out?
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the sequel on February 7, 2024. At the time, Disney said it would be released in theaters later that year. The official Disney Movies page lists November 27, 2024, as the film’s theatrical opening date.

That means the 2024 release year in the headline is accurate, but the announcement and release were separate events: the project was announced in February and opened in November.
What is Moana 2 about?
According to Disney’s synopsis, Moana receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors and sets out across the far seas of Oceania, into dangerous, long-lost waters. Maui returns, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, and the story introduces Simea, Moana’s younger sister.

Why was the announcement described as a surprise?
The announcement came as Disney confirmed the sequel as a feature-length theatrical film. The Associated Press reported on February 7, 2024, that the project had originally been planned as a television series before it became a movie. The available reporting establishes that format change, but does not detail the full internal decision-making or all the reasons behind it.
In a statement reported by AP, Iger said: “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui.”

Does “Scores 2024 Release” mean Moana 2 received a score?
No particular review score, rating outlet, or scoring metric is identified by that wording. The confirmed fact is the 2024 theatrical release; it would be misleading to infer a critics’ score, audience rating, or box-office result from the headline alone.
Who made the film?
Disney lists David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller as directors, and Christina Chen and Yvett Merino as producers. Its listed music contributors include Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa‘i, and Mark Mancina.

- Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprise their roles in this animated adventure sequel.
In Disney UK’s soundtrack announcement, director Jason Hand described the music this way: “The music in this film will make you laugh, it will make you think. It’s going to set up camp in your mind. It’s truly unforgettable.” That is promotional commentary from a filmmaker, not an independent review.

Disney’s Q3 FY24 earnings presentation reported nearly 200 million animated trailer-launch views in 24 hours, describing the figure as a company record for an animated trailer launch. Disney also said dedicated merchandise SKUs for Moana had doubled since the sequel announcement. The latter is a statement about the number of dedicated product listings or stock-keeping units—not evidence that merchandise sales doubled.
