Auliʻi Cravalho returns as Moana and Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui in Disney’s animated sequel Moana 2. The film also introduces a new crew from Motunui—including engineer Loto, farmer Kele, and storyteller Moni—along with the mysterious Matangi and Moana’s younger sister, Simea.
Moana 2 opened in U.S. theaters on November 27, 2024. This cast list covers the animated sequel, not Disney’s separate live-action Moana, which has a different performer in the title role.

Returning ‘Moana 2’ characters and their voice actors
Moana — voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho
Auliʻi Cravalho reprises her role as Moana, the wayfinder and leader of Motunui. In the sequel, Moana is called by her ancestors to break a curse and reconnect the peoples of Oceania. Her responsibilities have also grown: she is balancing life as an adventurer with her duties as a leader, sister, and member of her community.

Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, the shapeshifting demigod. Three years after the events of the first film, Maui joins Moana on her new voyage. Their relationship has developed into a friendship built on mutual respect, teasing, and support.
Johnson’s return is one of the sequel’s two headline casting continuations, alongside Cravalho. The character remains an important part of Moana’s expedition rather than simply appearing as a familiar guest.

Chief Tui — voiced by Temuera Morrison
Temuera Morrison reprises the role of Chief Tui, Moana’s father and the leader of Motunui. His presence keeps Moana’s responsibilities at home connected to the larger voyage and the risks of her departure.
Sina — voiced by Nicole Scherzinger
Nicole Scherzinger returns as Sina, Moana’s mother. Like Chief Tui, Sina is part of the family and community that Moana leaves behind as she answers the call to explore farther into Oceania.
Gramma Tala — voiced by Rachel House
Rachel House reprises Gramma Tala, Moana’s grandmother and a spiritual guide in the story. The character’s connection to Moana’s ancestry makes her especially relevant to the sequel’s focus on ancestral calls, wayfinding, and the communities of Oceania.

Heihei — voiced by Alan Tudyk
Alan Tudyk again voices Heihei, Moana’s comic rooster companion. Heihei travels with the expedition and returns as one of the first film’s recognizable animal characters.
Pua — no principal speaking voice listed
Pua, Moana’s pet pig, also returns as part of the traveling group. However, Disney’s principal English-language cast materials do not assign Pua a named speaking performer. It is therefore more accurate to describe Pua as a returning animal companion than to list an actor as Pua’s conventional voice.
The new crew in ‘Moana 2’
One of the sequel’s biggest cast expansions is the group Moana assembles from Motunui. Each new crew member brings a practical skill or perspective to the long voyage, making the expedition more than a two-person reunion between Moana and Maui.
Loto — voiced by Rose Matafeo
Rose Matafeo joins the cast as Loto, the crew’s brilliant and unconventional engineer. Loto maintains and modifies Moana’s canoe, including making design changes while the voyage is already in progress.
Her role gives the crew technical expertise and adds a different kind of problem-solving to the expedition. She is not simply a passenger: the canoe itself is part of her work throughout the journey.
Kele — voiced by David Fane
David Fane voices Kele, an older farmer from Motunui. Kele joins the crew to grow and maintain food during the long voyage. He is less enthusiastic about adventure than some of the other travelers, but he is deeply committed to his plants and to keeping the group supplied.

Moni — voiced by Hualālai Chung
Hualālai Chung voices Moni, a storyteller and keeper of legends from Motunui. Moni knows the community’s lore, admires Maui enthusiastically, and contributes physical strength as well as cultural knowledge to the expedition.
His storytelling role helps connect the voyage to the history and traditions carried by the people of Motunui.

Matangi — voiced by Awhimai Fraser
Awhimai Fraser voices Matangi, a mysterious new figure surrounded by flying foxes. Matangi is not simply another member of Moana’s crew. Disney’s character materials describe her as someone who challenges Moana’s assumptions about herself, making her encounter with Moana an important part of the sequel’s character journey.
Simea — voiced by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda
Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda voices Simea, Moana’s younger sister. Simea adores Moana and misses her whenever Moana leaves on wayfinding missions, giving the sequel a more personal family conflict alongside its wider adventure.
Simea’s presence emphasizes what Moana risks emotionally when she sails away. Moana is not only a leader answering a call from her ancestors; she is also an older sister whose absence affects someone close to her.
Tautai Vasa — voiced by Gerald Faitala Ramsey
Gerald Faitala Ramsey is credited as the voice of Tautai Vasa in Disney’s official production profile. The available principal materials provide the performer credit but comparatively little character-description detail, so Tautai Vasa is best identified as a credited supporting character without adding an unconfirmed biography or plot function.

Auliʻi Cravalho voices Moana in the animated films, including Moana 2. She should not be confused with Catherine Lagaʻaia, who plays Moana in Disney’s separate live-action Moana, released in 2026.
The two projects are separate productions: Moana 2 is an animated theatrical sequel with Cravalho as the voice of Moana, while the live-action adaptation uses a different performer and format.

Disney’s production materials also describe the filmmakers’ work with the Oceanic Cultural Trust. That collaboration helped inform elements including the story, canoes, islands, plants, animals, clothing, and other cultural details.
Are the singers and composers part of the voice cast?
Not necessarily. The film’s music credits and acting credits are separate.
