Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning finished its recorded theatrical run just short of two round numbers. Box Office Mojo lists it at $197,413,515 domestic, about $2.6 million below $200 million, and $598,767,057 worldwide, about $1.2 million below $600 million. The Numbers agrees on the domestic total but lists worldwide at $591,353,074, which would put the film roughly $8.6 million short of $600 million. The headline’s reference to three milestones cannot be matched to a third verifiable threshold, so this article covers the two that the figures actually support.
Where the totals stand
Two box-office databases were checked for this film, and they do not agree on every line. The domestic figure is identical in both. The international and worldwide figures are not.
| Measure | Box Office Mojo | The Numbers |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic lifetime gross | $197,413,515 | $197,413,515 |
| International lifetime gross | $401,353,542 | $393,939,559 |
| Worldwide lifetime gross | $598,767,057 | $591,353,074 |
| Gap to $200 million domestic (derived) | about $2.6 million short | about $2.6 million short |
| Gap to $600 million worldwide (derived) | about $1.2 million short | about $8.6 million short |
The gap rows are simple subtraction from each database’s own totals. They are not figures either site publishes. Both databases list the film’s lifetime grosses as they appeared on the pages accessed for this article, and those totals can be revised or grow as late international openings are added, so treat them as a snapshot rather than a final accounting.
The two milestones the film came close to
$200 million domestic: about $2.6 million short
The domestic gross of $197,413,515 sits roughly 1.3 percent below $200 million. Both databases agree on this number, so it is the most stable figure in the record. The film opened on May 23, 2025 in North American wide release, according to The Numbers. Its opening weekend was $64,036,428, and the rest of the domestic total accumulated as attendance fell away week by week (see the weekend breakdown below).

$600 million worldwide: about $1.2 million or $8.6 million short
Whether the film reached within a rounding error of $600 million depends on which database is used. Box Office Mojo’s worldwide total of $598,767,057 leaves about $1.2 million to go. The Numbers’ $591,353,074 leaves about $8.6 million. Neither database crossed the threshold on the pages checked.
Why the two databases differ on worldwide totals
The gap between the two worldwide figures is $7,413,983, and it sits entirely in the international column. Box Office Mojo reports $401,353,542 international, while The Numbers reports $393,939,559. Domestic numbers match exactly, so the difference is not a reporting disagreement about the US market. The sources do not explain why their international totals differ, and this article does not guess at a cause. If you cite the film’s worldwide gross, name the database you used and keep that source for every comparison.

The third milestone: what the headline may refer to
The headline promises three milestones, but the evidence does not establish a third round-number threshold for this film. The most prominent non-box-office number is IMAX’s global opening: IMAX reported $31 million through Monday, May 26, 2025, and described it as the biggest global IMAX opening in the franchise’s nearly thirty-year history. That is an official format-specific result for IMAX screens, not a milestone on the film’s total gross, and it is not a threshold the film approached or missed. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond framed the release in a statement dated May 27, 2025: “With ‘Final Reckoning,’ Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie bring their signature artistry and ambition to delivering heart-pounding action sequences, and it’s clear audiences want to experience this epic in the most immersive way possible.”
How the theatrical run slowed
The Numbers’ weekly domestic record shows the sharp decline that ended the film’s momentum in North America. The percentage changes below are derived from the reported weekend totals, not published by the database.

| Weekend | Domestic gross (The Numbers) | Change from previous weekend (derived) |
|---|---|---|
| Opening weekend | $64,036,428 | not applicable |
| May 30, 2025 | $27,218,020 | about 57% lower |
| June 6, 2025 | $14,824,742 | about 46% lower |
| June 13, 2025 | $10,553,909 | about 29% lower |
The drop reflects the North American run only. It does not mean every territory’s exhibition ended on the same date, and the international figures in both databases cover a broader and less uniformly reported set of release windows.
Budget and home release
The Numbers lists a production budget of $400,000,000. This is a database estimate, not a confirmed final production cost, and it is not a break-even figure. Neither source provides a studio-confirmed number.

- Domestic: $197,413,515, about $2.6 million below $200 million, identical in both databases.
- Worldwide: $598,767,057 on Box Office Mojo (about $1.2 million short of $600 million) or $591,353,074 on The Numbers (about $8.6 million short).
- The discrepancy sits entirely in international totals, and the sources do not explain it.
- No third round-number milestone is verifiable from the sources checked. The IMAX $31 million figure is a format-specific opening, not a threshold.
