Kenza Layli, a fictional Moroccan digital influencer, won the inaugural Miss AI competition in July 2024. The crown went to a character created and managed by a human—not to an autonomous AI system. Organizers and contemporary coverage described Miss AI as the world’s first beauty pageant for AI-generated influencers.
What was Miss AI?
Miss AI was an online competition for AI-generated virtual influencer personas, presented by the World AI Creator Awards in partnership with creator platform Fanvue. It was not a conventional pageant with human contestants on a stage. Each entry was a fictional character produced and operated by a real creator or team.
Organizers said the competition received roughly 1,500 entries. That figure refers to reported submissions, not necessarily 1,500 distinct creators or independently built AI systems. The “world’s first” description was used by organizers and contemporary media; it is best understood as the event’s positioning, not a settled claim covering every earlier virtual-model or digital-art competition.
Who won Miss AI?
Kenza Layli and her creator
Kenza Layli, representing Morocco, was announced as the winner in July 2024. She was presented to audiences as a Moroccan lifestyle influencer with an activist-oriented persona. Her creator was identified in coverage as Myriam Bessa, founder of Phoenix AI; some reports spell the first name Meriam. Runners-up and audience
Contemporary reporting named Lalina of France and Olivia C of Portugal as the runners-up. Around the announcement, reports cited approximately 193,000 to 200,000 Instagram followers for Layli, alongside a TikTok presence. Those are time-specific figures from 2024, not current audience counts. CNN reporting reproduced by North Country Public Radio also placed the contestants in the broader virtual-influencer scene.
How were entries judged?
Reports described a finalist stage that narrowed the field to ten, followed by points-based judging across three broad categories. Terminology differs slightly between coverage, so “beauty/realism” captures the appearance-related category without implying a single precisely defined test.

What did the winner receive?
Reports described a winner’s package worth about $13,000 in combined cash and services, not $13,000 in cash. The reported cash prize was $5,000 for the winning creator; the package also included creator mentorship, Fanvue-related support, and public-relations services reportedly valued at more than $5,000. Coverage separately cited an approximately $20,000 prize pool for the broader competition. These are reported values, and the service component should not be read as money paid directly to the winner. How do you make an AI influencer?
“AI-generated” describes a range of workflows, not a creator-free process. A persona may use generated images, video, audio, or text, while a person or team supplies the concept, direction, editing, character development, publishing schedule, and account strategy. The on-screen identity is fictional; the labor behind its consistency and distribution is real.
CNN’s reporting on the contestant ecosystem cited tools such as DALL·E 3, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and ChatGPT as examples. That does not establish that every finalist—or Layli’s creator in particular—used every tool. Image generators can create assets, but a viable influencer presence also requires a coherent biography and visual style, ongoing content production, audience management, and decisions about what the persona says and endorses.

Why the pageant matters to entertainment
Miss AI is better understood as a creator-economy event than as a technological breakthrough. It brought virtual influencers, synthetic media, social-platform growth, and monetization together in a familiar entertainment format: contestants, judges, rankings, a winner, and a prize.
The product being judged was not just a face. A successful virtual character depends on a recognizable identity, a consistent look across formats, a publishing operation, audience engagement, cultural positioning, and commercial appeal. Those ingredients are relevant to advertising, fashion, entertainment marketing, gaming, music promotion, and virtual production.

The event also shows how a fictional persona can be packaged like talent. It does not show that AI independently conceived or marketed a celebrity, or that synthetic characters have replaced human performers. A production team still makes the creative and commercial decisions, even when generative systems produce much of the visible media.

What questions does Miss AI raise?
Disclosure and accountability
Audiences need to be able to tell when a persona is fictional, whether a specific post is synthetic, and who is responsible for claims or endorsements. Sponsorship disclosure matters just as it does for human influencers. The fact that Layli is a synthetic persona does not, on its own, establish that her accounts violated any rule.
Beauty standards and cultural representation
A competition that scores beauty can reproduce familiar appearance ideals even when the contestants are fictional. It also raises questions about whether visual diversity is meaningful if the format remains appearance-focused, and what it means for a human creator to present a synthetic character as representing a country. Layli’s association with Morocco is part of her public persona; it is not the same as a human contestant’s lived identity.
Work and creative labor
Virtual influencers may change demand for models, photographers, makeup artists, stylists, location crews, voice performers, and copywriters. They also depend on human creators, editors, marketers, and operators. Miss AI points to a shift in how work is organized as much as a straightforward replacement of workers.

Rights, likeness, and judging
The competition’s public coverage does not resolve practical rights questions: what reference material informed an image, whether a character resembles a real person, who controls the persona and generated assets, or how contest entries may be reused. Nor do the judging categories settle fairness. Beauty is subjective; realism can favor polish over originality; social reach rewards promotional resources; and a technology score may reflect access to tools and skilled teams. AI-generated judges do not remove those human-designed choices.
Fanvue’s role in the event
Fanvue’s partnership gave the contest a platform dimension as well as an awards dimension. It is reasonable to read the event as serving several possible business purposes at once: attracting AI creators, generating attention, presenting Fanvue as a home for synthetic creators, and building future opportunities for subscriptions or brand partnerships. That interpretation does not establish the organizer’s private motives or guarantee creators an audience or income.

It does not establish that Miss AI became an annual pageant, that a later titleholder exists, or that the event holds official status within traditional international pageantry. The distinction matters: a heavily covered first edition is not, by itself, evidence of a continuing institution.
