Microsoft later repeated the figure in a 2024 developer article, describing the milestone as announced the prior year. “Copies sold” is not the same measure as the number of players, accounts, or people who have tried the game. The 2023 recap also reported activity statistics—15 million pickaxes crafted, 6.7 million diamonds discovered, and 15 million skeletons slain—but said those figures represented a 30-day average of activity from September to October 2023. They are gameplay measures, not sales figures.

What did the 2024 anniversary celebration include?
Minecraft’s official anniversary page described a 15-day run of free Character Creator items in the Bedrock Marketplace, from May 15 through May 29, 2024. The celebration page also offered a free anniversary add-on and a free anniversary map. A separate May 17 article covered an anniversary cape that could be claimed starting that day, along with that day’s Character Creator item.
These were dated anniversary offers. The cited pages do not establish whether any item, cape, add-on, or map can still be claimed or downloaded now, so they should not be treated as currently available.

Was there a physical anniversary tie-in?
Yes. On May 24, 2024, the LEGO Group announced six LEGO Minecraft sets to mark the game’s fifteenth anniversary. These are physical building sets, separate from Minecraft’s free in-game and downloadable anniversary content. The announcement does not establish present-day stock, current models, or prices.
