MIKE, Arca, Japanese Breakfast and more than 400 artists and labels were reported as participants in No Music for Genocide, a campaign asking rights holders to block participating music from streaming in Israel. The figure and artist list reflect launch-era reporting on September 18, 2025—not a verified current roster or proof that every requested block was carried out.
Who was reported to have joined?
Pitchfork’s September 18, 2025 report named MIKE, Arca and Japanese Breakfast among participants in No Music for Genocide, and said more than 400 artists and labels had signed up. Resident Advisor’s launch coverage the same day also reported more than 400 artists and labels, naming Arca, Yaeji and Massive Attack among supporters. These are reports from the campaign’s launch, not an independently audited or current membership list. Pitchfork and Resident Advisor covered the announcement.
What does the streaming boycott ask artists to do?
No Music for Genocide asks participating artists and rights holders to make their releases unavailable for streaming in Israel. In practice, that generally means editing release territories or asking a distributor or label to apply geo-blocking. The request is territory-specific: it does not, by itself, call for a participating artist’s entire catalog to be removed worldwide. The campaign’s launch coverage describes the requested mechanism through distributors and labels. Pitchfork; Resident Advisor.
Why do organizers say they are taking action?
The campaign frames the action as a cultural boycott. Its statement, quoted by Pitchfork, says: “Culture can’t stop bombs on its own, but it can help reject political repression, shift public opinion toward justice, and refuse the art-washing and normalization of any company or nation that commits crimes against humanity.”
#1 Best Overall
- Get ready to have lots of fun with this stylish and great looking design.
- This design is unique and wearable peace of art and a wonderful gift.
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
Organizers cite what they describe as genocide in Gaza, ethnic cleansing in the Occupied West Bank, apartheid within Israel and repression of pro-Palestine activism. Those are the campaign’s stated grounds for the protest, as reported by Pitchfork and Resident Advisor; they should not be taken as separate statements of personal motivation from each artist named in coverage. Resident Advisor reported that organizers drew inspiration from cultural-boycott activism against apartheid in 1980s South Africa. That is the campaign’s stated inspiration, not evidence that the historical cases are equivalent.
How is this different from Massive Attack’s Spotify action?
Pitchfork also reported that Massive Attack announced it would remove its music from Spotify globally. That is distinct from No Music for Genocide’s request: the latter concerns availability in Israel and is pursued through rights holders’ distributors or labels, while Massive Attack’s announcement concerned one platform worldwide. The two actions differ in both geographic scope and mechanism. Pitchfork’s report covered both.

What the launch figure does—and does not—show
The more-than-400 figure was reported by Pitchfork and Resident Advisor on September 18, 2025, at the campaign’s launch. It does not establish how many artists or labels remain involved today, how many catalogs have actually been geo-blocked, or what effect the campaign has had on streaming revenue. The launch reports do not provide those outcomes.
