Chefs Miguel Maestre, Colin Fassnidge and local chef Blaze Young led 20 business leaders in preparing dinner for people connected with charities OzHarvest serves. The event centred on cooking alongside its recipients and welcoming them with dignity—not just on serving a meal.
When and where was the CookOff?
The one-night event was held at Perth City Farm in East Perth. PerthNow described it as OzHarvest’s inaugural WA CEO CookOff, hosted by the national food rescue organisation. PerthNow reported on the event on 16 October 2025.
Which chefs and business leaders took part?
Miguel Maestre, Colin Fassnidge and Perth chef Blaze Young led 20 business leaders in the kitchen. The business leaders were divided into three groups with the chefs and prepared a set menu together. Fassnidge joked that his CEO apprentices would have to work quickly in the heat.
What did they cook?
The groups prepared canapes, shared sides and mains, and desserts. Fassnidge made his chicken bread, which the report described as an Irish-style pizza: roast chicken on garlic bread with herbs and potatoes. Maestre cooked several paella variations using seasonal ingredients.

Who was the dinner for, and why did the format matter?
The guests were people connected with the charities OzHarvest serves. Founder Ronni Kahn said the event turned the usual arrangement around: recipients were the guests of honour, while chefs and business leaders served them. She described the aim as making guests feel “dignity, respect in action.”
The shared kitchen was also intended to make the work of feeding people tangible for the business leaders. Fassnidge said he hoped they would see both what goes into preparing food for many people and the people who would receive it. Local chef Blaze Young said homelessness remained a serious problem in Western Australia.

What was the meal target—and what is known about the result?
Before the event began, Kahn said OzHarvest was 16,000 meals short of its local target of 200,000 donated meals. That was the organisation’s pre-event status, not a total raised or served by the CookOff. PerthNow’s report does not give a final fundraising amount, a final number of meals served, or a later outcome showing whether the target was reached.
