Several alumni reunited for the 30th-anniversary special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, which premiered on Netflix on April 19, 2023. “Power Rangers” spans many seasons and a much larger cast than one article can cover, so this retrospective focuses on the original series and selected alumni who returned for the special.
How the original series and reunion fit together
The first iteration of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered in the United States in August 1993 and ran for three seasons, from 1993 to 1995, according to Us Weekly. The franchise continued well beyond that original cast: Netflix said it had reached 29 total seasons by the time it announced the 30th-anniversary special in 2023.
Once & Always brought back several familiar performers, rather than every original cast member. Netflix’s 2023 announcement lists the returning actors and the special’s April 19, 2023 premiere. The career notes below are selected highlights from sources published in or before 2023, not a complete or verified account of what each person is doing in October 2026.
Original and later Rangers: where their careers led
| Performer | Character and Ranger | In Once & Always? | Selected career highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| David Yost | Billy Cranston, Blue Ranger | Yes | Netflix says he appeared across four seasons and more than 200 episodes. After leaving the series in 1996, he worked behind the camera, including in reality television production and development, and as a development executive at Syfy. |
| Walter Emanuel Jones | Zack Taylor, original Black Ranger | Yes | Netflix notes his athletic, martial arts and dance background and lists television appearances and the 2023 House Party reboot among his later credits. |
| Amy Jo Johnson | Kimberly Hart, Pink Ranger | No | A 2024 AOL retrospective describes later acting, writing, directing and songwriting work, and lists her 2024 EP Still Here. |
| Thuy Trang | Trini Kwan, original Yellow Ranger | No | Trang died in a car accident in 2001. The special pays tribute to her; its story introduces Minh, Trini’s daughter. |
| Jason David Frank | Tommy Oliver, Green and White Ranger | No | Frank joined the original series later as Tommy and reprised the character across later seasons. He died in November 2022; Netflix said the special pays tribute to him. |
| Catherine Sutherland | Katherine “Kat” Hillard, second Pink Ranger | Yes | Netflix says she joined in the third season and later acted in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie and Neighbours. She also co-hosted the Power Rangers Playback video series with Nakia Burrise. |
| Steve Cardenas | Rocky DeSantos, second Red Ranger and later Blue Ranger | Yes | Netflix reports that he focused on martial arts, opened studios and won medals in competitions before returning for the special. |
| Johnny Yong Bosch | Adam Park, Black and later Green Ranger | Yes | Netflix highlights his voice acting, including video games and English-language anime dubbing. Its listed franchises include Transformers, Naruto, Mortal Kombat, Dragon Ball Z, Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Akira, One Piece and Bleach. |
| Karan Ashley | Aisha Campbell, second Yellow Ranger | Yes | Netflix notes sitcom guest roles and that she co-wrote and starred in the 2005 action-horror film Devon’s Ghost: Legend of the Bloody Boy. |
The returning Ranger actors in Netflix’s announcement are Jones, Yost, Sutherland, Cardenas, Bosch and Ashley. Johnson is not among those named. The special also introduced newcomer Charlie Kersh as Minh. Netflix’s cast guide provides the biographical highlights for many of the returning performers.
