At the time, the cause of death had not yet been established. CBS quoted the NYPD as saying, “The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.”
What was Michelle Trachtenberg’s cause of death?
Initial reports on February 27 and 28, 2025, said the cause and manner of death were undetermined after her family objected to an autopsy. That was the status reported at the time, not the final account. On April 16 and 17, the Los Angeles Times and Washington Post reported that the New York City medical examiner determined she died from complications of diabetes. Those reports do not establish a specific type of diabetes or provide further medical details.
