Michael Mann’s 1983 horror film The Keep is scheduled for a new Vinegar Syndrome 4K UHD and Blu-ray release on October 20, 2026. It is not the film’s first 4K edition: Imprint listed a separate limited 4K UHD/Blu-ray set dated September 10, 2025. The editions have different documented details, so “finally available” needs that distinction.

What is The Keep?

Set in 1943 in German-occupied Romania, Mann’s film follows Nazi invaders who awaken a sinister presence inside an ancient fortress in the Carpathian Alps. Scott Glenn, Alberta Watson, and Jürgen Prochnow are among the cast. The film has developed a cult following, and its Tangerine Dream synth score is a defining part of its atmosphere. Criterion Channel’s catalog entry describes it as a horror film with a troubled production and a growing critical reputation.

Which 4K editions are listed?

Edition Timing and status in the listings Documented presentation and contents
Vinegar Syndrome 4K UHD/Blu-ray Scheduled for October 20, 2026, according to Cinema 1’s listing. Vinegar Syndrome describes it as the film’s 4K UHD and Blu-ray debut, restored from the original camera negative, with new cast and crew interviews. A full technical and extras specification was not stated in the cited listing. Cinema 1 listing
Imprint limited 4K UHD/Blu-ray Listed with a September 10, 2025 date. Bay Street Video showed it sold out when checked; stock can change. The listing specifies a 96-minute theatrical cut restored from the original 35mm negative, in the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, with Dolby Vision and HDR10, English LPCM 2.0 stereo, and optional English HOH subtitles. It also lists a Blu-ray of the theatrical cut, a making-of documentary, soundtrack CD, commentaries, featurettes, interviews, and printed collectibles. Bay Street Video listing

Does either release include the director’s cut?

The Imprint listing identifies its film presentation as the 96-minute theatrical cut. Criterion’s catalog says Mann’s original cut ran 210 minutes, but that runtime does not establish that a director’s cut is included on either 4K release. The Vinegar Syndrome listing cited here does not confirm which cut it presents.

Which edition should you choose?

  • Choose by release timing: Imprint has a 2025 listing, while Vinegar Syndrome’s edition is scheduled for October 20, 2026. Check current stock and release status before ordering.
  • Choose by documented specifications: Imprint’s listing provides specific HDR, aspect-ratio, audio, subtitle, and theatrical-cut details. Do not assume those specifications apply to Vinegar Syndrome’s disc.
  • Choose by extras: Imprint lists a larger collector package, including a making-of documentary, soundtrack CD, and printed items. The cited Vinegar Syndrome listing mentions new interviews but does not provide a comparable full contents list.
  • Check compatibility: Region compatibility and pricing are not established by these listings as cited here. Confirm the details for the edition and market you intend to buy.

The available product listings do not provide an independent comparison of picture or sound quality, so they cannot establish which disc looks or sounds better.
