The official teaser trailer for Michael offers a first look at Jaafar Jackson playing his uncle, Michael Jackson. Lionsgate presents the film as a story of Jackson’s life and legacy, from his early days with the Jackson Five through his rise as a solo performer. The studio announced a U.S. theatrical release for April 24, 2026.
What the Michael biopic trailer shows
The trailer introduces Jaafar Jackson in the role of Michael Jackson. Lionsgate’s official trailer description identifies Jaafar among the cast, while the studio’s synopsis says the film will trace Jackson’s path from the discovery of his talent as the lead of the Jackson Five to his pursuit of becoming a major entertainer. Lionsgate also says the film includes performances from his early solo career and looks beyond the stage.
That description is the studio’s outline, not a guarantee that the film gives equal attention to every period or controversy in Jackson’s life. “First footage” describes this trailer reveal; the available announcement does not establish whether footage had previously been shown privately or at industry events.
Who is in Michael?
Lionsgate’s November 8, 2025 announcement names Jaafar Jackson, Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo in the cast. Antoine Fuqua directs, and John Logan wrote the film. Lionsgate’s synopsis describes a story of Jackson’s life and legacy, but does not specify how the film handles every chapter of that life.
