PerthNow reported that interstate attendees Jade Martin and James Williamson reached the venue at about 8:30 a.m. and said they were first in line. They wanted the close-up view and front-of-crowd energy—not a queue time set by an official stadium policy.
How early did Metallica fans queue in Perth?
PerthNow reporter Caitlin Vinci wrote that fans made their way to Optus Stadium from sunrise. Martin and Williamson, described in the report as interstate attendees, said they arrived at about 8:30 a.m. and were the first people there. Those times describe the interviewees’ experience; they do not establish when the stadium opened a queue or when anyone else was allowed to arrive.
The concert was part of Metallica’s M72 World Tour stadium run in Australia and New Zealand. The band’s October 23, 2024 tour announcement listed Perth among the cities. A Western Australian Government Gazette notice dated September 21, 2025, identifies the Optus Stadium event on November 1, with an event start listed at 16:30 and event-order start at 12:00. Those are event-order details, not a stated queue-opening time.
Why did they want to be at the front?
For Williamson, the attraction was more than a clear view of the stage. He told PerthNow: “We want to be as close as you can. The chance to catch a guitar pick, the chance for them to look at you and make some sort of conversation and we want to be at the front because that’s where people go the hardest.”

Personal stories behind the wait
PerthNow’s account also showed how different personal connections brought people to the show. Ed, a 51-year-old Metallica fan who had travelled from Darwin, described the anticipation in especially personal terms: “The only thing that beats this is my children being born.”

The account shows that some attendees chose to arrive many hours before the concert, but it does not establish an official queue start time, stadium queueing rules, or guidance for a future event. An attendee’s arrival time is not permission to queue at the same time for another concert. Anyone planning for a later event should rely on the venue’s or event organiser’s published instructions for that specific show.
