Written and directed by C. Premkumar, the film puts memory and an unfolding relationship ahead of a conventional action-driven premise.
What is Meiyazhagan about?
After 22 years away, a man returns to his hometown and encounters a relative who greets him with warmth and insistence. He cannot recall the relative’s name, and that awkward gap becomes the starting point for a story about recognition, memory and the ties between people.

This is a spoiler-light premise: the central interest is how the relationship develops through conversation and emotional recognition, rather than a mystery or action plot. Netflix categorizes the film as a drama and uses the descriptors “nostalgic” and “emotional”; those are platform labels, not independent critical verdicts. Check Meiyazhagan on Netflix.
Cast and production
Karthi and Arvind Swamy lead the film, with Sri Divya among the principal cast. Netflix’s listing also names Saran Shakthi, Rajkiran, Devadarshini Chetan and Jayaprakash. C. Premkumar wrote and directed the film; Jyotika and Suriya are credited as producers, and Govind Vasantha composed the music. The production credits are identified in the film’s trailer listing. How long is the film?
The reported runtime depends on the theatrical cut. Rotten Tomatoes lists the original theatrical version at 2 hours 57 minutes. Cinema Express reported that a later theatrical version was shortened by 18 minutes and 42 seconds, giving it a runtime of 2 hours 38 minutes. These are separate cuts, not conflicting reports of one unchanged version.
Rotten Tomatoes lists the original runtime; Cinema Express reported the revised runtime.

Where can you watch Meiyazhagan?
Netflix’s India title page lists the film, but it also displays a country-availability warning. Check your own local Netflix catalog, since access can vary by country and catalog listings can change. The India listing shows Tamil (original) audio as well as Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu audio, with English and Hindi subtitles. These listed options apply to that catalog page and may not match what is available in another region. View the Netflix India listing.
The listing confirms Tamil audio in the India catalog, but it does not establish which theatrical cut Netflix carries. Do not assume the streaming version matches either reported theatrical runtime unless the platform identifies the cut.

What do critics and viewers say?
Rotten Tomatoes displayed a 93% Tomatometer based on four critic reviews when checked in 2026. That is a small, changeable snapshot of the reviews collected by the aggregator, not a broad or permanent measure of critical consensus. See the Rotten Tomatoes listing.
One excerpt there quotes The Hindu reviewer Gopinath Rajendran praising the leads’ performances and the development of their characters’ relationship. Other excerpts highlight the performances and describe a tone that moves between melancholy and warmth. Audience comments on the same page differ over pacing: some call the film emotional and nostalgic, while others find it slow. Those reactions are individual responses, not a universal assessment.
