Megamind is DreamWorks’ 2010 animated superhero comedy about a supervillain who finally defeats Metro City’s protector—and discovers that winning leaves the city without one. Its official follow-up is the separate 2024 release Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate, which continues the story shortly after the original.
What is Megamind about?
DreamWorks’ film turns a familiar superhero setup around: Megamind, voiced by Will Ferrell, defeats Metro Man, voiced by Brad Pitt, and takes control of Metro City. With its protector gone, Megamind faces a new problem: what does a supervillain do when there is no hero left to oppose him? The premise sets up a comic story about changing roles, rather than a conventional contest between an established hero and villain. DreamWorks’ official film page identifies it as a 2010 film and summarizes the setup.

Is Megamind 2 a real movie?
Yes. The official follow-up is Megamind VS The Doom Syndicate, a separate 2024 title—not another name for the 2010 film. DreamWorks says its story begins “mere moments” after the original’s events. The Doom Syndicate returns with a plan to launch Metro City to the Moon, and Megamind works with Roxanne, Ol’ Chum, and Keiko to stop them while maintaining his villainous pretenses. See DreamWorks’ page for the follow-up for its official synopsis.
