Randall and Beth Pearson have three daughters: Tess, Annie, and Déjà. Déjà is their eldest and joined the family through adoption; Tess is the middle daughter, and Annie is the youngest. The characters are played by Lyric Ross, Eris Baker, and Faithe Herman, respectively.
Who are Randall and Beth’s daughters?
Their daughters are Déjà, Tess, and Annie. Because This Is Us moves among different points in the Pearson family’s life, the girls’ ages and circumstances depend on the timeline shown in a particular episode.

What to know about each daughter
Déjà: Randall and Beth’s adopted eldest daughter
Déjà becomes part of the Pearson family through adoption. In the story leading into the show’s sixth and final season, she is at odds with Randall and Beth as she considers leaving high school early and moving to Boston to be with her boyfriend. Her push for independence unfolds within a family relationship that has already changed profoundly through her adoption.

Tess: the middle daughter finding her own identity
Tess’s storyline includes discovering her sexual identity and coming out to her parents. As she grows up, she also works through a delicate relationship with Beth. Eris Baker has recalled a scene in which Tess wants her mother’s acceptance to feel genuine, underscoring how important that connection is to Tess.
Annie: the youngest, with a light touch
Annie is Randall and Beth’s youngest daughter. The Television Academy characterizes her as a source of jokes and sweet asides that can ease tension in family scenes. The available character summaries provide less detail about a sustained individual plot arc for Annie than they do for Tess and Déjà, so it is best not to mistake her lighter on-screen role for a different family position.

How the show’s timelines affect their stories
This Is Us follows the Pearsons across several decades, shifting between past, present, and future. A scene featuring an older version of one daughter may take place years after the main storyline of an episode, so context matters when identifying her age or situation.
One example comes in the Season 5 episode “The Ride,” directed by Jon Huertas. Huertas described a future sequence in which Annie and a pregnant Déjà arrive at Kevin’s house. He connected the daughters to Randall’s wish to build a large family. His interview with TVLine about the episode also discusses the challenge of finding actresses who embodied the younger versions of Annie, Tess, and Déjà.
