Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brings three generations of the Deetz family back to Winter River: Delia, Lydia and Lydia’s teenage daughter Astrid. Beetlejuice, Lydia and Delia return from the 1988 film, while Astrid and a group of new characters—including Rory, Delores, Wolf Jackson and Jeremy—expand the story. Here’s who’s who and how they connect to the sequel’s Afterlife trouble.

The film was released theatrically in the United States on September 6, 2024; its international rollout began September 4, according to the official film site.

Who is Lydia’s daughter Astrid?
Astrid Deetz — Jenna Ortega
Astrid is Lydia’s rebellious teenage daughter and the youngest of the three Deetz generations at the story’s center. When she discovers the town model in the attic, she accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife. That makes her the character whose discovery pulls the supernatural conflict into the family’s present. Warner Bros.’ official synopsis identifies Astrid and describes the portal incident.
Who are the new characters in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
These additions widen the story beyond the returning Deetzes. Netflix Tudum’s May 6, 2025 character guide supplies the role-to-performer matches below; Warner Bros.’ cast listing confirms the principal cast.

Rory and Lydia’s relationship
Rory is not a returning Deetz: he is Lydia’s boyfriend and manager. In a September 4, 2024 interview with TIME, Theroux said he and director Tim Burton worked to make the couple believable while treating their bond as deliberately unhealthy: “Playing shallow and dim and not very bright is really fun. And then me and Tim had these long discussions about how we wanted [Rory and Lydia] to feel believable as a couple, but it’s just this incredibly ingrown toenail of a codependent relationship.” That is Theroux’s description of the characters, not a neutral summary of their relationship.
