Zachary and Elijah are Elton John and David Furnish’s sons. John addressed them directly in a letter published by TIME on March 25, 2022, for his 75th birthday, writing, “Zachary and Elijah, you two are the greatest gifts I have ever been given.” He added, “You are my proudest achievements, and I love you both so, so much.”

The Associated Press also quoted John describing his family as central to his life: “The greatest things in my life are my two kids and David. And the music comes secondary to them.” In the same interview context, he said, “You can have children, and you can be gay, and you can have a happy family. I couldn’t be happier.”
How old are Elton John’s sons?
At a family-portrait unveiling at London’s National Portrait Gallery, an Entertainment Tonight report published March 5, 2026, identified Zachary as 15 and Elijah as 13. Those are ages reported at that event, not a claim about their ages today.

What has Elton John said about being a father?
In a December 2024 interview with ABC News, John described his hoped-for legacy this way: “My legacy is that I was a great husband and an even better father.” He said his priority was ensuring his children were happy and had a good life, adding, “That’s all that counts.” Furnish, speaking about John at home, put it simply: “He’s daddy.”

A bedtime book about different kinds of families
In his 2022 TIME letter, John recalled that the boys’ favorite bedtime story was The Family Book by Todd Parr. He quoted its message: “There are lots of different ways to be a family,” and, “Your family is special no matter what kind it is.” That detail reflects what John wrote about their reading at the time; it does not establish a current favorite.

Their choice about homeschooling
In a 2024 TIME interview, Furnish said the couple chose not to homeschool their children because they wanted them “to be their own people and to define life as they want to be defined.” His comment explains their decision and motivation; it does not identify a school or establish the boys’ current enrollment.

John closed his birthday letter with advice for Zachary and Elijah: “Be yourself. Push the envelope a bit, and ruffle some feathers where you need to.”
