It was a limited-time release pairing Sanrio characters with Yu-Gi-Oh! monsters. The partner announcement named ten designs for the global promotion, while U.S. coverage reported nine plushes; the available sources do not explain the difference.
What was the McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion?
Announced by Konami Cross Media NY on May 14, 2024, the collaboration brought together Yu-Gi-Oh! monsters and Sanrio characters from Hello Kitty and Friends. The partner announcement described a limited-edition Happy Meal toy promotion rolling out internationally. It also noted that Hello Kitty was created in 1974 and said Sanrio products were available in more than 130 countries; these are company background figures, not measures of the Happy Meal release.
When did the toys arrive in the United States?
The U.S. launch was reported for August 20, 2024, at participating McDonald’s restaurants. The May 2024 official partner announcement had forecast a U.S. rollout in summer, including Puerto Rico, but did not give that specific date. The promotion was time-limited, so those announcements do not establish that the toys remain available.
Which toys were included?
The two published lists differ. The official announcement names ten designs for the global promotion, while the U.S. launch report describes nine plushes and omits Badtz-maru. Neither source explains whether the difference reflects regional selection, format, or another factor.

How did the international rollout work?
The May 14, 2024 partner announcement said the promotion would be offered in 55 countries, beginning in Europe in spring. Belgium, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, and Greece were named among the initial markets. The nearly year-long rollout was then expected to expand to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, the Caribbean, and some Asian markets before reaching the United States and Puerto Rico in summer.
Australia had a separately announced nationwide launch from May 16, 2024, while stocks lasted, according to the McDonald’s Australia newsroom. That date applies to Australia, not the U.S. launch.

What is known about the promotion’s scale?
Konami Cross Media NY’s 2024 announcement said Yu-Gi-Oh! fans had watched more than 900 anime episodes and purchased over 25 billion trading card game units. These are company-reported franchise figures, not Happy Meal sales or toy counts. McDonald’s Australia’s separate announcement cited more than 1,000 episodes across eight series for its market; that market-specific statement should not be merged with the U.S.-linked figure.
For collectors looking for the retired toys, the cited announcements and launch report do not establish present-day stock, resale prices, seller reliability, or whether a complete set is available. Those details depend on individual listings.
