Mayor of Kingstown is a bleak crime thriller about a Michigan town built around incarceration and the McLusky family’s role as its power brokers. Four seasons have been released, while an eight-episode fifth and final season is in production. It is a grim, violent drama—not light background viewing for a casual weekend binge.
What is Mayor of Kingstown about?
The series follows the McLusky family in Kingstown, Michigan, where incarceration is the town’s only thriving industry. The family acts as an intermediary among the institutions and people shaped by that system. Paramount’s official synopsis names systemic racism, corruption, and inequality among the show’s central themes. (Paramount Global Content)

Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon co-created the series. Its prison-centered setting makes it an institutional crime drama as well as a family power struggle; expect a dark, often violent tone rather than an easygoing thriller. (Paramount+; Paramount Press Express)
