Among her film credits were The Young Lions and The Blue Angel. She later made television guest appearances, including on Mission: Impossible. After stepping back from her studio career, she returned to acting occasionally. The Guardian’s obituary recounts her film and television work.
Her marriage to Sammy Davis Jr.
Britt married entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. in 1960. They divorced in 1968 and had a daughter, Tracey; they also adopted two sons, Mark and Jeff, according to the official Sammy Davis Jr. biography.
#1 Best Overall
Their interracial marriage drew racist hostility at a time when anti-miscegenation laws remained in force in some US states. The Guardian, recounting Tracey Davis’s account of a 2014 CBS interview, reported threats against the family, including death threats, racist messages on their car, bomb searches and armed guards. The hostility was part of the period’s wider racism; it should not be treated as the sole explanation for Britt’s career choices.
