Max’s Extra Member Add-On costs $7.99 per month plus applicable taxes, is paid by the primary account owner, and permits one adult extra member with a separate login. Warner Bros. Discovery launched the option on April 22, 2025; it is not a new 2026 rollout.
What the $7.99 add-on actually buys
Max’s normal account-sharing policy is for the account owner and people in the same household. For someone living elsewhere, the authorized option is the Extra Member Add-On, not continued use of the owner’s password.
The primary subscriber keeps the existing Max subscription and pays an additional $7.99 monthly charge. The invited person receives a separate Max login and password under that subscription, rather than the owner’s credentials. Warner Bros. Discovery describes the product in its April 22, 2025 launch announcement.
What is included
- One adult extra member, age 18 or older.
- A separate login and password.
- Access under the owner’s existing Max plan.
- One profile for the extra-member account.
- One simultaneous stream for that extra member.
- Use from outside the owner’s household, provided both users are in the same country.
What it is not
- It is not a second full Max subscription with independent plan selection.
- It does not provide multiple profiles or a Kids profile.
- It does not allow several outside viewers; only one extra member can be added per account.
- It is not the right fix for someone using your account without permission.
Who is eligible in the United States?
The add-on is narrower than the phrase “share your account” suggests. The primary subscription must be a base Max plan billed directly by Max or WarnerMedia. The invited member must be at least 18, live in the same country as the subscription owner, and be the account’s single permitted outside member.

The Extra Member help page excludes subscriptions billed through third parties, including app stores, internet providers, mobile providers, television providers, and the Disney+, Hulu, Max bundle. If your billing is handled by one of those services, the option may not appear even though you subscribe to Max.
How much does it cost?
Max lists the Extra Member Add-On at $7.99 per month plus applicable taxes. The fee is separate from the base subscription and is charged to the primary account owner. The cited official material does not list an annual add-on price.
Max’s U.S. help center lists these base prices (checked August 18, 2026): Basic with Ads at $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annually, Standard at $16.99 monthly or $169.99 annually, and Premium at $20.99 monthly or $209.99 annually. Provider billing, promotions, taxes, legacy plans, and bundles can change what an individual subscriber pays.

How to add an extra member
Max’s interface can vary by device and billing arrangement, so avoid relying on an exact button label. The stable process is:
- Sign in to Max with an adult profile.
- Open the subscription-management area. On a phone, tablet, or computer, Max identifies the path as Profile → Subscription; on a TV device it is Settings → Subscription. See Max’s subscription and plan guidance.
- Confirm who bills the subscription. Direct Max billing is required for the add-on.
- Look for the Extra Member Add-On and review the monthly charge plus tax.
- Authorize the additional charge.
- Send the invitation to the person outside your household.
- Have the invitee follow Max’s email instructions to create or activate the separate login.
If the option is missing, check the billing provider before assuming the account is ineligible for another reason.

What happens to an existing profile?
Max announced Profile Transfer alongside the add-on. It is intended to help an existing sharer move to an extra-member account while retaining personalization such as viewing history and My List. The announcement confirms the feature, but the material available here does not provide a complete current transfer workflow or guarantee that every profile setting transfers identically. Transfer screens and availability may therefore vary.
Extra member versus an ordinary household profile
A normal Max account can have up to five household profiles, according to Max’s profile guidance. That is different from an extra-member account, which is limited to one profile.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- A partner or roommate who lives with you can generally use a normal household profile.
- A person in another home should not be treated as simply another profile on your account.
- The $7.99 payment does not create a second household with the same profile flexibility as the owner’s account.
When the add-on makes sense
- One adult lives elsewhere but in the same country.
- The owner wants to retain control of billing.
- One profile and one simultaneous stream are enough.
- The owner is billed directly by Max.
- The combined cost is lower than buying a separate Max subscription for the second viewer.
When a separate Max subscription is better
An independent subscription at Max.com is usually the better fit when:

The Extra Member option is missing
Check the billing source first. Max directs subscribers to the subscription page to identify whether Max or a provider handles billing. The subscription-management instructions explain where to find those controls. The Disney+, Hulu, Max bundle is specifically excluded, and other third-party arrangements may also prevent the option.
The viewer is under 18
The add-on is for an adult extra member. A child should use a Kids profile within the household account, not an Extra Member invitation.

You need two outside viewers
Only one extra member is permitted per account. Additional people generally need their own subscriptions or another arrangement that complies with Max’s terms.
You are traveling
The same-country rule applies to the extra-member product. It should not be read as proof that Max automatically charges people merely for traveling or maintaining a second residence; those are separate, account-specific questions.
The charge is higher than expected
The $7.99 figure is before tax. Review your base plan, promotional or legacy pricing, annual billing, bundle status, and billing provider before comparing totals.
Someone is using the account without permission
Do not buy an add-on for unauthorized access. Max’s security guidance recommends changing the password, which signs the account out of devices, then signing in again with the new password.
You remove the extra member
According to the Extra Member help page, removal immediately ends that person’s access and Max emails them that sharing has ended. Removing the member is not the same as canceling the entire Max subscription; check the subscription billing screen for the applicable cancellation or add-on controls. Max also provides cancellation guidance at this subscription page.
The practical verdict
The Extra Member Add-On is a narrowly defined paid-sharing option: one adult, one profile, one stream at a time, same country, and an eligible subscription billed directly by Max. For that situation, $7.99 monthly can be a convenient alternative to a second full subscription. It is a poor fit for minors, international sharing, multiple outside viewers, third-party-billed accounts, or anyone who needs independent plan and billing control.
