Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord was announced in April 2025 as Lucasfilm’s next animated series. That “next” label now refers to its announcement, not an upcoming release: the first season premiered on April 6, 2026, and is streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
What is Maul: Shadow Lord about?
The animated Lucasfilm series follows Maul in the early years of the Galactic Empire, after Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith, but before Star Wars Rebels. On Janix, a planet the Empire has not yet reached, Maul works to rebuild his criminal syndicate. He crosses paths with Devon Izara, a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may become the apprentice he wants.
The premise shifts attention from the Jedi-led view of the saga to Maul’s efforts to regain power in a changing galaxy. Lucasfilm’s production page gives Maul’s intent a concise expression: “Let us have our revenge.”
When did it premiere, and how many episodes are there?
The first season premiered April 6, 2026, with two episodes. New episodes followed weekly in pairs, with the finale arriving May 4. The season has 10 episodes and is rated TV-PG on StarWars.com.

Where can you watch it?
Disney’s UK viewing guide lists all 10 episodes as streaming exclusively on Disney+. That confirms the UK viewing option; availability can differ by territory, so check the Disney+ catalogue in your region.
Who made the series and who is in the cast?
Dave Filoni created the series, and Filoni and Matt Michnovetz developed it. Brad Rau is the supervising director. Sam Witwer returns as Maul, with Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara and Wagner Moura as Captain Brander Lawson.

Lucasfilm said on April 2, 2026, that season two was in the works. The announcement did not give a release date, so there is no confirmed premiere date to report.
