Matlock Season 2, Episode 6, “Harm Reduction,” aired November 13, 2025. Its case about a group of nuns gives Matty and Olympia a reason to work together, while the more consequential tension lies in their strained friendship and the secretive moves unfolding inside Jacobson Moore. The episode has plenty in motion, but its most important firm-politics development happens largely out of view.

What happens in “Harm Reduction”?

CBS’s official synopsis puts two threads at the center of the 42-minute, TV-14 L episode: Matty and Olympia help a group of nuns as they continue to test the boundaries of their friendship, while Olympia and Sarah become involved in secretive activities at the firm. The premise brings the show’s legal case and its workplace drama into the same hour without making them identical stories.

The firm thread is connected in review coverage to Eva and Olympia’s plan to oust Senior. That effort gives the episode an undercurrent of strategic risk, but much of its development happens off-screen, as Fangirlish notes. The result is a story whose stakes are easier to understand than to feel moment by moment: the conflict is present, though the episode does not always dramatize its progress directly.

Does the nuns’ case strengthen the episode?

The case gives Matty and Olympia a practical reason to share the hour even as their personal relationship remains unsettled. That is a useful fit for an episode called “Harm Reduction”: the title suggests limiting damage rather than pretending a difficult situation can be fixed all at once. The friendship story benefits from that measured approach, since a return to easy trust would undercut the tension the show is building.

Still, the available episode framing does not establish enough case detail to support a more specific verdict on the legal problem or its resolution. What can be assessed is the structural choice: the nuns’ matter anchors Matty and Olympia’s shared work, while the emotional stakes come from what they can and cannot yet trust about one another.

Are Matty and Olympia friends again?

Not simply. CBS frames them as continuing to test the boundaries of their friendship, and Collider’s review listing describes them as remaining on “thin friendship ice” while they proceed with Eva’s plan against Senior. The hour therefore treats cooperation as possible without presenting it as proof that the relationship is repaired.

That distinction is the episode’s most promising character idea. Forgiveness and healing need not move in a straight line; Fangirlish reads the relationship through that lens. The story leaves room for goodwill and hurt to coexist, rather than resolving the strain through one shared case.

Does the war against Senior gain momentum?

The Senior plot adds tension because it asks Olympia to navigate a private alliance and a workplace power struggle at the same time. Sarah’s secretive activity with her at the firm broadens that sense of concealed maneuvering. Yet the plan to oust Senior is more reported than staged in this episode: Fangirlish notes that Eva and Olympia’s consideration of it largely takes place off-screen.

That choice keeps the plot moving in the background, but it also limits the episode’s dramatic payoff. The viewer can register that a serious effort is underway without seeing enough of its decisions and consequences to feel a decisive shift. “Harm Reduction” is stronger at sustaining uncertainty than at making the campaign against Senior feel like a turning point.

Verdict: an emotionally cautious, unevenly paced hour

“Harm Reduction” is most effective when it lets Matty and Olympia work together without pretending their friendship has recovered. The nuns’ case supports that uneasy collaboration, and the private activity at Jacobson Moore keeps the larger conflict alive. But the Senior storyline loses force when so much of its development is left off-screen. The episode is a useful chapter in the season’s relationships and power struggle, more compelling for its unresolved tension than for a major plot breakthrough.
