No specific CGI Stan Lee cameo in a future Marvel film has been announced. On May 18, 2022, Genius Brands International announced a 20-year license allowing Marvel Studios to use Lee’s identity and existing recordings in future films and television productions. That grant of rights makes certain uses possible; it does not confirm that Marvel plans to digitally recreate Lee or put him in a particular production.
Is Marvel bringing back Stan Lee cameos?
The May 2022 announcement did not say that Marvel would bring back Lee’s traditional cameos. It described rights Marvel Studios could use, not a commitment to include him in every eligible production—or any particular one. Philstar reported the next day that the agreement did not assure that cameos would return.
That distinction matters: a license establishes permission, while a confirmed cameo would require an announcement tied to a named production or another clear statement of intent. The available announcements do not establish one.
What does the 20-year agreement cover?
Genius Brands International said its controlled Stan Lee Universe venture, formed with POW! Entertainment, signed the agreement with Marvel Studios on May 18, 2022. The company described Marvel’s rights for future feature films and television productions as covering Lee’s:

The announcement also described a separate grant to Disney Parks, Experiences and Products: exclusive rights for specified uses in theme parks, water parks, cruise lines and in-park merchandise. The release did not describe a particular digital-recreation method, a production slate or an obligation to use Lee’s likeness.
Will Stan Lee be CGI in future Marvel movies?
The deal permits uses of Lee’s likeness, but the announcement does not say Marvel will create CGI versions of him. It also does not identify a future film, a planned cameo or a digital-effects approach. It would therefore be inaccurate to report the license as confirmation that CGI Stan Lee appearances are coming.

What later Stan Lee appearance was announced?
In June 2023, Genius Brands announced that Marvel’s Stan Lee, a documentary, was scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on June 16. This is a documented subsequent use of Lee-related material, but it is a documentary—not an announcement of a CGI cameo in a future feature film.
